I can't find the Far Cry and FSX dual-monitor images. I think I used my old nVidia 8600 GT for those. It's not easy so far with ATI cards for those games.

Here's X-Plane 9 which does just fine with my HD 5770.

Photo Bucket limits the size of images. But, they're huge!

I need a much beefier video card though. 2 monitors are good for flight sims if I have side-by-side seating. Otherwise, 3 monitors work best. Before I do that, I may have to buy an HD 5970 or a GTX 295 since I have a 1 x PCI-E video slot motherboard. Or, I could buy another HD 5770 and buy a Crossfire-capable motherboard.

You don't need multi-monitor for sniping which by the way, is a very big part of Crysis.

I've gone back to college and made acquaintances with younger college kids who are into gaming. Hence the sudden interest in catching up.

I preferred flight sims more ever since I was their age. But, I'm still capable of playing pc and console games with my nephews and their other uncles/friends. That's why we have a weekly family Battlefield 2 fest.

Oh. I had to return my kid's monitor back to her Mac. I don't want her to have a fit like last time.

Not good. The targetting crosshair would not be centered. It would be offset to the side of the monitor. That's why 3 monitors is best for shooter games.

The only real advantage of triple monitor in shooter games is your enemy (in multiplayer) can see you sooner and take a shot at you while you're still swivelling around. The human eye is geared for symmetry.

Our server master has triple monitors for gaming and has the pc to handle it. Well, he owns a DIY pc store. His newest pc has dual Xeon quadcores, 8gb ram, and dual GTX 295's*. He also has three 22" monitors (NEC I think).

Dual GTX 295 = 4-way SLI. Just one of those videocards costs almost as much as my whole pc.

i remember playing Darkside and Clouds of Xeen separately way back in the early 90s. I don't think i ever completed all the quests to finish the combined World though. hmmm... may go back and play that now too.

It's a bold statement which I'll be very interested in verifying, not that it'll stop me from buying the game if they weren't. He He.

The fully functional and dead accurate virtual cockpit alone is enough to get me interested:
I've been waiting for SoW to be released for like forever now.
I just bought a new set of hardware to replace my dead motherboard.
If Maddox does not release SoW soon, I'm pretty sure my hardware will no longer be able to handle the eyecandy. I hope Maddox finally releases it soon.

Otherwise, I'd have to upgrade my H/W again.

(But then again.. I dunno why I'm still aching to play SoW. After 5 years of playing the IL2 series, my Fritzes and Gustavs are still getting blown out of the sky by puny Polikarpovs! Shameful!!! I guess I'll get a taste of being blown out of the sky in style by Hurris on my Emil by the time SoW comes out.)

Well, IL-2 ran pretty well on older hardware when it came out despite looking fantastic at the time. I have faith in Oleg's skills as a programmer. So long as I get a consistent 25fps I'm happy. The only time I care about 60fps or more is if the card isn't performing up to spec.

As for actual dogfighting? I've been suckered into a spin more than a few times as well as being shot down. Oh well.

Me-109 vs I-16..... What tactics are you using? Usually, I'd use zoom and boom tactics like what US fighters used vs the Japanese Zero. Even then, it's still hard for me to shoot an I-16 down.

I start out by exploiting my altitude and doing diving attacks on the I-16 then climbing up. But after a couple of fruitless attempts, I eventually find myself hugging the ground fighting for dear life. Those I-16s seem to be powered by alien technology....I swear I've seen them float upwards as if they were Harriers. :D

Anyway, have you tried BoBII? Although less flashy and much older, I feel this one gives better immersion than IL2.
