    Have 2 laptos. A P3 900 Toshiba, made in the Philippines, using it to post this. And a HP/Compaq business class note book with a Turion. No complaints with either one. Oh yeah the Toshiba's DVD rom died on the 1st year. just used an external drive. No warranty kasi unit bought sa US.

    You mean Centrino? Oo may mga ganun presyo na nga, mostly from Acer, Gateway, HP. Malaki ang price drop dahil lumabas na kasi ang Centrino Duo.

    Dell. Aside from having the biggest market share(?), they're sturdy and reliable.

    However, the recent issue on their batteries... well....

    sa mga bibili ng notebook please check the battery before buying. DO NOT buy laptops with batteries made by Sony. Baka kasama dun sa exploding laptops.

    Also, bilhin nyo yung merong Intel Core 2 Duo processors. Made in the Philippines ito.

    OT: panasonic's toughbook line are being used by the US military

    fyi, i have a less-than-a-year-old 17" WS Dell Inspiron but i use the HP more. anyone wants to buy my Dell? ;)

    sir chieffy, aside from gaming san nyo pa gagamitin yung notebook?
    sa akin ding paniniwala it doesn't matter kung anong brand kasi outsourced naman lahat pati yung manufacturing. mas important cguro kung sino yung sub-con nung particular brand na yun.

    Gaming considerations:
    -> dapat hindi on-board (ng MCH) yung graphics.
    -> ATI-based subok na
    -> Core Duo or Core 2 Duo (para 64bit) processor
    -> lotsa ram (memory)

    mahal nga lang pag bibilhin locally. you can customize it to have a stand alone 256mb nVidia video card.

    ang solution? naglagay ako ng clear plastic (from ziploc) over the keyboard which i secure with magic tape all around. ayun 1 year ko ng ginagamit ay malinis pa rin ang keyboard at walang problema sa mga foreign objects. bago pa rin ang keys at hindi burado. syempre every once in a while ay palit din ako ng plastic dahil lumalabo din sa kalumaan. just me.
    * lolo pepe, di ata pede yan sa ibang portables kasi yung design nung ibang manufacturers kasama yung spaces in between the keyboard sa ventilation system design..

    post sales consideration:

    -bios and proprietary software updates
    -readily available parts (oem or aftermarket) good barometer is availablity on ebay
    -on line support/documentation (user forum etc..)
    -resale value

    Thinkpads will get you all the above (R & T series, go X if budget permits)
