Sony to spin off TV and home audio division to TCL

"In a surprising turn of events, Sony and TCL have signed an agreement granting TCL majority ownership of Sony's TV and home entertainment business, pending final approval.

In a joint announcement, the companies said the spin-off will take the form of a joint venture, with TCL holding 51% and Sony 49% of the shares.

This new joint venture, where TCL assumes majority control, will operate globally and handle everything from product development and design to manufacturing and sales.

TCL CSOT already supplies LCD panels for Sony TVs, including Bravia 9."
