i want my desktop and laptop to be networked to share files. i have successfully setup both to the network through the networking wizard. my desktop was able to browse and upload files to the laptop, but the laptop cannot see the desktop. it says contact the administrator of the server to find out if i have access permission. what should i do?

kung same workgroup yan & you explicitly checked that you want file & printer sharing... just turn off both PC coz the file sharing parameters will be refreshed on your next reboot...

But then again if you are using specialized software firewalls like Zone Alarm, you may need to lower the security settings of the program or add trusted IPs so that both PCs can interact.

    both PCs have been restarted.

i think its the firewall, i have sygate installed in my desktop. does the router assign the same IP to my laptop (connected wireless) everytime? if not, how do i add a trusted IP?

ok na, i enabled network neighborhood sa firewall. pero ang nakikita lang sa laptop is yung SharedDocs on my desktop. kung i-enable ko dito sa desktop ang file sharing ng mga folders, may chance ba na makita rin ito ng mga hackers?

sir boybi, i assume you have either a netgear or a linksys wireless router. need not to worry about the hackers. i think the router has a 2 firewalls (at least for my netgear) NAT and SPI. SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) serves a 'gatekeeper' while NAT (network address translator) hides your home network.

mind if i ask? why use a d-link wired router? you use it as a switch? which of the two is connected to the modem-router? you use a Smart-WIFI?

i also have the same setup, i can share files between my desktop and laptop. My problem right now is if a shared folder's contents gets to large, i could not access the files anymore. If for example i have a folder with mp3's, ok pa siya if mga bente lang ang laman, pero pag umabot na nga mga hundreds, di ko na maaccess, "access denied file in use" na lumalabas. What i do is i resegregate the files into more subfolders tapos i would share that folder. Medyo cumbersome eh, is there anyway to work around this?

may existing wired router na kasi ako, kaya i-configured the wireless router to act as an access point for my wifi devices.

*laklak, baka may naka-limit yung access mo sa isang folder. i'm still searching though. up ko kapag meron na akong nakuha.

thanks! yung mga folders ko, no access limitations naman lahat. Although yung desktop ko is Windows Pro, yung laptop ko is windows home. May effect kaya to?

*laklak, i don't think so. pero na-try mo na bang ilipat yung files mo sa shared folders? di pa ako naka-subok magkaroon nang ganung problema kasi pag nagta-transfer ako mula desktop to laptop or vice versa ok naman e.

ah yung sa shared folder ng windows mismo? kasi ang ginagawa ko is niriright click ko lang yung folder then sharing options na eh. Anyway, ill try that option first.

by default dynamic ip naman ata yung linksys router, is it not? if you plug in smartbro to WAN then connect your pc to the LAN port, you don't establish a network connection?

smartbro din ako. sayang lang nga yung additional router in this setup. Just sell the wired router for other upgrades.

sir kung ganun ang setup mo... mas better na router ang linksys... dlink sucks big time as a routing device... saka lahat ng routers defaulted to dynamic IP or you are using a DHCP server to provide dynamic IPs... baka sa naming convention lang nag iba kaya di mo napansin...

tama sila. last time i checked, there is a setting "Automatic DHCP" for dynamic IP. i overlooked this one when i was setting up a linksys router too. decieving din kasi yung installation instruction ng linksys. on my netgear, i haven't encountered that problem. that's why i got connected in less than an hour- inulit ko pa yun. we'll wait for boybi to post what he's got

for me, i wouldn't sell the other router, but will reduce it as a switch only. especially for the far-off desktop. i think the reason why he bought the linksys is to have an access point for his wireless connection. i may have read it somewhere here in tsikot:

    http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showt...t=28975&page=4

just scroll down. anyways, hope that he got connected already.

i also overlooked the Automatic DHCP. first choice kasi ito sa drop down list, and hinahanap ko kasi specifically yung Dynamic IP. try ko later i-setup.

actually wala namang problema sa pag transfer ng isang malaking file eh, lumalabas lang pag medyo madami ng lamang files yung isang folder tapos over 1GB na yung folder size. Wireless din ako.
