The new Macbook Air is very tempting. It might be time to retire my wife's 12 inch Macbook and get this one.

Macs have fairly decent resale value in the market because of the macOS support.

Will also upgrade my Intel-powered Macbook Pro with an M1-powered Air or Pro when it comes out here.

I get that the 8GB/256GB Air will be $999, but can't seem to find prices for the 16GB/256GB or 16GB/512GB model.

I think 8gb is plenty for casual use especially with the OS optimisation. Pretty cool how they integrated the memory on the m1 chip. Not upgradeable but maybe the memory tests should be fine. Even for 1080p video editting. Reviews will be released on or before Nov17.

Casual use yes. But I use my Macbook for Lightroom and iMovie.

And if I were to upgrade I'd want it to last ~5 yrs so 16GB is minimum to go for me.

With the memory on the m1 die, its speeds could be ddr5 or even ddr6 almost like HBM. MacOs doesnt have swapfiles, so i think going 512gb is a better upgrade. Im just speculating.. im hoping the basic model is good enough. Parents would love to have these.

Apple just beat Amd's (almost)fastest zen3 processor - 5900x in this single threaded benchmark. And their cpu is passively cooled. INSANE!!

I only checked the trade-in value of the 12". About less than PHP 12k. Might just sell it rather than do a trade-in.
