December 18th, 2012 04:53 PM #11Thanks sa mga input. I'm into photography during high school / college days. I even won in the national secondary press con national level using a point and shoot camera.
I have graduated from a Sony point and shoot 5 megapixel cam which already broke down. CP cam won't work . Want to rekindle my old hobby but I'm no longer familiar with digital cameras today...

Top brands today are Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Pentax. Pero try to take a look sa Micro 4/3 system, a.k.a. mirrorless system. Wala itong flapping mirror mechanism, hence called mirrorless. Interchangeable din ang mga lens nito at ang body size is just like a digicam lang. Sa M4/3 naman, there's Olympus, Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic Lumix.

kung hindi naman kailangan nang DSLR.. you might want to consider the Canon S110 or the Panasonic LX7..

I do have a smaller compact digicam for times when I prefer a smaller camera. There is a quality difference between photos taken by my SX40hs and SX210is cameras. And there are some shots that cannot be done by my smaller SX210is. Also my SX40hs is superior in indoor photos using low or ambient lighting.
SX210is = compact 14mp digicam with 14x optical zoom
SX40hs = bridge 12mp digicam with 35x optical zoomLast edited by ghosthunter; December 18th, 2012 at 05:30 PM.

Nikon D5100 will do for you, fits your budget for a kit and an additional lens. If you can stretch your budget a bit, go for D7000.

NEX is considered part of the mirrorless system, though IIRC, sensor size is same as the one found on entry level DSLRs.

December 18th, 2012 05:40 PM #20For your budget and inclination in Photography..a Nikon D5100 or Canon650D is a good compromise..
Just bought a Canon650D for the wifey and she's lovin the ala-tablet feature it's touchscreen LCD screen. Not to mention an advance image processor than rest of the Canon line up. Digic 5 is my consideration of buying the 650D over 60D. But am really looking for the upcoming upgrade of 60D.
