    Thanks for the suggestion.

I've searched for info on the SX210, It is is a very good camera and cheaper but what I love about the LX5 and s95 is the real manual control, great range of ISO and aperture hence the heftier price. I want a camera with an auto setting but have more control when I want to. both the LX5 and s95 does have lesser Megapixels but their sensor area is wider producing better image quality, this is currently the trend on newer cameras.

I'll be using it as a photog learning tool till I graduate to a full DSLR.

What your take of the DMC FZ100 hybrid? Thinking of getting this because its very ideal video(1080P) and still (14 MP) travel camera.

How about the Sony NEX, a big sensor camera with a small body? Compact cameras and super zoom cameras have small sensors which gives grainy pictures at low light conditions.

There's also the new Sony SLT A33 / A55, a smallish DSLR with a fixed translucent mirror. No moving mirror that will wear out and no slapping sound.

Or wait for Photokina, the camera fair in Sept. Maraming lalabas na bagong cameras.

I think those are already in a different class such as the GF1 and Olympus pen. based on the early previews of LX5 and S95, their low light performance has improved greatly but of course still not as good as a full DSLR.

both of those have interchangeable lens right? I travel light so carrying a huge bag for the camera and the lens kit is a bit troublesome. and seeing the images on the web, though the body itself is impressively slim, the lenses are a bit bulky. And the lens maintenance of these cameras is too much work. maybe if I've become serious about photography, I'd consider it. but right now a high end compact is enough.

I'd personally go for a NEX due tot he interchangeable lens capability, plus the significantly better sensor (CMOS and APS-C sized). Multiple lens would indeed be a bother if you bring all of those at once, but I think you are into travel photography so a single 18-55mm should more than suffice as your walkabout lens. Then as you develop your skills, you get to select appropriate lenses as needed. At US$700 (with the 18-55), it's just a shade higher than your 400-600 US$ budget.

The 16 mm f/2.8 pancake lens is also to die for. You mentioned something about appreciating low light performance, so the high ISO capability of the NEX (up to 12800) paired with a f/2.8 lens would be a killer indeed.

    interesting.

I've just found out the sony nex-3 over here is just 43,738 yen while the Lumix LX5 is 48,456 yen.

I thought those ones costs over 800 dollars! mura lang pala! very tempting......

The only differences I see between the Nex-3 and the Nex-5 is its video capability and size. The former 720p and the latter 1080i. The Nex-5 is a little bit smaller than the Nex-3.

thanks for the suggestion. I've yet to hold it in my hand, if it feels small enough baka ito na bilin ko.

the Lumix GF1 and the Olympus pen though feels like I'm holding a brick.

Gonna think it over the weekend.

held the NEX-5 personally this morning. It's a bit awkward ergonomically but still an amazing piece of technology. the size is a huge selling point.

the canon powershot G11 though feels just right at home in my hands. It feels really solid plus it has a basic viewfinder (has parallax error though) and offers a more complete package (makes you feel like a photographer, *almost). but there are rumors g12 will be coming out soon.

micro 4/3s cameras and the Nex-5 are great, it's just that if I'm gonna buy a camera with interchangeable lens might as well buy a full DSLR, in my humble opinion. and I'm still wondering if this is the right hobby for me, so I think high end P&S cameras are enough right now to fit my needs.

Gonna play the waiting game till the G12 comes out.

Ang ganda bro... That would have been a good camera for travel... Hassle pa rin ang magdala ng DSLR lalo na at medyo mahigpit sa mga handcarry bags sa airport.... (May laptop pa rin kasing dala).....
