Autocad for Mac is different supposedly. I havent tried it but people I know say its a crippled version

Also I have no idea how the M1 macs perform with autocad since it might not be optimized yet

Windows and autocad start up will eat all that 8gb ram. You should bave a minimum of 16gb ram and 2gb dedicated graphics card memory. Ideal graphics are nvidia quaddro series, it will still run in gaming graphic cards but you will notice the flickers and the vector lines will appear not straight.

Would the used X1 Carbon better than a new Macbook Air? ...

Would get a Macbook Air over X1C or any Windows laptop, as long as the programs I need can run on Mac.

Within Windows laptops, my top pick would always be an X1C, but overall I prefer Macs so my personal laptop is a Macbook Pro.

Been a MacBook Pro user for over a decade and I love the quality of previous MacBook Pro laptops prior to the butterfly keyboard mess.

Given the recent degradation of MacOS, I would favor Dell laptop over the Macs. Unless you're an uber power user who absolutely need that M1 chip processing power (which most users don't really need), the upcoming next gen Intel chip or the current Ryzen chips would be enough for most computing needs. With a non-Mac laptop, I have the freedom to use whatever OS I want.

A co-worker just upgraded his MacBook Pro to the latest MacOS Monterey. His laptop got bricked. Yikes

Heard of bricked MacBooks so I waited until they fixed it. Too busy right now to do benchmarks and check performance so I'll probably have to just trust that this upgrade's worth it.

M1 powered apple laptops are good. they don't need the extra memory and their displays are already good.

yes(ryzen 6000 is mobile only) 6nm process node. they're touting improved power management. Intel's 12th gen is also good. buying old gen is just bad imo.

Latest I5 processor, at least 8gb preferably 16gb, 512GB SSD for windows based Laptop. Dell, HP, lenovo are good brands. If budget permits get the business models with 3 years warranty.

Agree on this, no need for touch screen functions imho though backlit keyboard would be nice as well. i5 with 8gb RAM and 512 SSD, could also add another 512 old school HD as partition D for storage, would be plenty enough. Go for the 15 inches or higher screen, I once read a study about how bigger laptops tend to be more durable as maybe the parts inside are not so cramped and as such no addt'l heat is generated as between them. Something to that effect. Makes sense.

RTX 2060. Bnew costs 30k here, got a 4-month old one for 23.5k. The rest of the parts bnew na.

This isn’t mine actually, my cousin asked help to build a PC for school and gaming. Good midrange performance I think for any game at 1080p.

Bought an older processor because the new ones aren’t much faster, they just have better IGPs which I don’t need since I have a dedicated card naman.

CPU: Intel Core i5-10400
MB: Asus TUF B460 Pro WiFi
RAM: G-Skill 2x8GB DDR4-3600
GPU: Asus TUF RTX 2060 OC
SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 500GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
PSU: Corsair CX650M semi-modular
Case: Corsair 275R Airflow (3x120mm)

Bought everything except the GPU from PCHub in Gilmore. They still offer the best prices for most parts.

I don’t expect GPU prices to stabilize anytime in the next 6 months so better to have a card now to enjoy gaming than to wait. If not urgent naman, then can wait it out I guess.
