one of those raided was federal land, a subsidiary of metrobank. they used pirated autocad. grabe, ganun kalaki na kompanya tapos peke pa na software. eh, barya lang yang cost ng autocad para sa kanila

dito sa office namin bumili na lang ng autocad lite... about 80k ata... (natakot na boss namin eh...) tapos ang gamit nila is yung complete autocad... for about 250k ata... pero tagal na yun nabili... ang mahal din naman kasi sobrang ibang softwares... kaya pag small business lang napipilitan mag pirated...

nakalipas na ang halos 2 buwan...wala akong nakitang anino ng BSA at local enforcers dito sa area namin...nagsulputan pa nga mga bagons shops na ang baba ng presyo...hay buhay...lugi kaming mga nag invest nang tama sa hanapbuhay na internet shop/cafe

Since the the formation of the BSA in the 90's, like-orgnizations, the NBI and the PNP have been promising to eradicate software piracy "within a year". A decade later, software piracy is still present. Go figure.

di naman mahal win98 or ME e. sobra na yun for internet, encode at ano pa. kahit games kaya rin e. i dont think excuse ang 'naghihirap' or 'mahal' ang windows. baka gs2 ng shop owners e latest ang OS nila pero di nman makabili. meron naman older and cheaper windows dami pa rason pakshet.

Mag Linux na lang kayo. Yang anti-piracy law eh covers everybody - individuals and businesses. AFAIK ang Windows XP Home edition nasa 5K na lang. One of the options eh mag XP Home edition na orig tas yung productivity tools for document authoring, spreadsheets and the like, mag OpenOffice. Pag photo editing, GIMP2 - parang Photoshop CS.

Buti at inabot ko pa yung P4000 WinXP Home na licenced. Hassle alng ang activation! Regarding the raids, Windows pa lang po yan mga Sir. Paano na yung mga camera/film developing shops who use Photoshop? Licenced kaya ang gamit ng mga yun? Buti at hindi pa hinuhuli yung ibang illegal software installation. OS palang.

Kung sakali, baka hindi lang lanshops at internet cafes magsasara. Pati na rin yung mga film developing and image editing centers. Correct me if this is wrong: ang orig na Photoshop mga P45,000 yata!

Hala, sige. Huli kayo ng huli. Pero hindi naman tinutulungan ang ating mamamayan na ma-afford yung software. In my opinion, our authorities should also spend a lot of effort negotiating with developers on pricing their software to within reach of the general public in third world countries, not just the OS.

I think Microsoft is developing the Tagalog-version of Windows so that people cannot export it outside the Philippines. This way, they can sell it at a much more affordable price taking into consideration the inflation rate and Filipino customer's capacity to pay.

Microsoft could not bring down the price of Windows here in the Philippines because visiting people will just go here and buy it using their dollars/pound and take it back to their own country.

Kapatid, this is a hoax. This rumor has been going on for two years. Dubbed as Microsoft "Bintata", this was harriedly announced by PGMA last year during a presscon sometime last year, which caught Microsoft Philippines senior officers by surprise because as far as they officially know, there is no such product - and that is still their official stand: there is and would be no Tagalog version of Windows available in the near-future.

However...

There is a proposal that was submitted by Microsoft Philippines last year to their Redmond HQ, proposing the development of a Tagalog version of Windows. This is still a proposal until now.

But...

A senior MS Philippines honcho issued an official statement also late last year that all of this Microsoft "Bintana" stuff is "purely speculation" and that there is no such thing.

I was just thinking na NBI ang gagawa nito kung saka-sakali. And with all the backlog cases they have right now (e.g. Nida Blanca, hindi pa masolve-solve hanggang ngayon), I don't think the NBI has the time and resources to engage in internet P2P crackdown at this time.

ningas kugon lang itong crackdown na ito...nasaan na sila ngayon? ang dami pang nagsusulputan na shops na di naman licensed software ang gamit...pati MS office meron mga pc nila wow hanep!!! yaman nila....ako di maka afford ng MS Office dito sa shop kaya OpenOffice gamit ko...operating system lang ang kaya ko...

Win95, even though it's not being manufactured and supported by MS anymore, still needs to have a license. In fact, even MS-DOS 5.5 needs to have a license dun sa mga gumagamit pa. Would Microsoft go after entities who use these softwares illegally? Oh yes - they would and they are. Ganyan katindi ang Microsoft.

The BSA is heavily funded by Microsoft. The other smaller players like Adobe and Norton were just included just to make the organization's conflict of interest less obvious. SCO which is suing Linux outfits also had a significant amount of funding from Microsoft. That's how ruthless Microsoft is. It would be better if they just poured their energy in developing better software than going through uncompetitive methods that they are pursuing.

Regarding NBI, what they are doing is a prime example of why our country remained poor. We go through the motions of setting up an organization and its rules. The initial startup phase will be successful. However, when the organization is running, a sense of complacency will develop as our culture is very laid back. No sense of professionalism and excellence, more focus on image building rather than no nonsense dedication to work. It's bad enough that the NBI has no sense of urgency when it comes to solving cases, what's worse is that they don't have the discipline to follow through on the cases until they are solved.
