Pinoy airline engineer in UAE nabbed for taking iPad left by passenger
May 7, 2012 5:00pm
A Filipino airline engineer in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who found and kept for himself an iPad tablet left in an airplane by an Indian trader was arrested after being tracked by a cloud-based application installed in the gadget.
According to a report of the news site Gulf News on Monday, the engineer pleaded guilty to theft when he faced the court on Sunday.
The Filipino pleaded guilty and submitted to the court a written waiver from the businessman, the report said.
"(The Filipino) admitted during questioning that when he went to check the aircraft after the flight, he found the iPad and took it," the policeman who interrogated the Filipino told the court.
The businessman's iPad bears a serial number.
The Indian businessman who used an iCloud app — Apple's cloud-based storage service — learned that the Filipino had changed his login details to use the stolen iPad.
The court is expected to issue a verdict on the case on May 22.
The investigation showed the Indian trader made a one-day trip to Dubai and contacted the airline's lost-and-found section after discovering his iPad was missing.
At that time, the Indian did not yet know the identity of the person who took his iPad.
After a few days, the Indian's wife informed the airline that her husband's iCloud account showed that the Filipino had changed the owner's username to log into the iPad, the report said.
The wife said they discovered the Filipino's real identity based on his Facebook account. - VVP, GMA News

May nabalita na na ganito. Nadukutan sya ng iPhone nya sa MRT. Basta yung modus na may magsasabi sayo "ayun yung kumuha ng fone mo oh, bumaba na." so hahabulin mo yung said person na yun, gets nyo na haha tinatamad ako mag-explain.
Then the victim searched for a wifi spot, took out his laptop, and checked his e-mail. Apparently, the said app secretly takes a picture through the front camera of whoever is trying to unlock the phone through the passcode and sends it to the owner's e-mail along with the GPS location via Google Maps of the one trying to access the phone. Ayos nga eh kitang kita mukha nung mga dumukot ng phone.
The app's name is iGotcha. Only available for jailbreaked iPhones. *damn*.

Another iPad Mini Rumor Suggests Release This Year -- AppAdvice
With much of the blogosphere opining on what the new iPhone may look like, we’ve got a new rumor today about Apple’s mythical iPad mini. The 7.85-inch iPad will use thin-film touch technology making it significantly thinner than the current iPad models, according to DigiTimes.
According to the report, Nitto will supply the thin-film materials and Nissha Printing and TPK will product the touch screens on Apple’s first iPad mini. This rumored “G/F2” design will reportedly reduce costs, and would include one less layer of film than the current “glass/film/film” structure found in previous iPads.
DigiTimes’ track record is less than stellar in terms of Apple rumors. However, today’s iPad mini rumor does fall in line with those made in recent months from other sources.
As we reported last week, Apple may unveil the iPad mini as early as October, alongside the sixth-generation iPhone. The iPad mini will include a 2048 x 1536 resolution and a pixel density at around 326 ppi, which is identical to the pixel density on the iPhone 4S. In addition, in order to launch the new iDevice at a low price point, Apple will likely limit its storage capacity to 8GB.
In March, we suggested the would-be tablet made a lot of sense. In addition, the Daring Fireball’s Jon Gruber confirmed that Apple was working on the iDevice in-house. With news that interest for Amazon’s Kindle Fire is ebbing, now could be the perfect time for Apple to release a smaller iPad.
For a list of iPad mini rumors mentioned on AppAdvice, please click here.
The new tablet, if released, will be priced at a $200 to $250 price point according to numerous sources, many mentioned above.
Do you think Apple will pull the trigger and release an iPad mini? Would you buy the iDevice?
