I experimented with both Alexa and Google Home this afternoon. In a nutshell, I think I'm more inclined to keep Google Home.

Google Home is able to understand a wider range of commands, whereas Alexa prefers you follow a certain syntax and needs you to say some keywords before it responds. For example, I can tell Google, "Hey Google, turn my TV on". Alexa will require me to say exactly the name of my TV registered in the app (i.e. "Alexa, turn on my Samsung TV").

While Google allows for more human-like inputs, Alexa is superior when it comes to responses. Google responds in your typical robotic AI manner while Alexa responds in a casual manner. If you tell them both "Good night", Google will say, "Good night" while Alexa will say "Sweet dreams".

The clincher for me is that Google responds to a wider range of commands - Spotify, Google Maps, Grab, weather, etc. Alexa probably has it somewhere in its long list of downloadable "Skills", but Google is easier to use out of the box.

Hopefully in the coming weeks, Samsung rolls out full Google Assistant support as promised for its latest Smart TV models.

I have both GH and Alexa. GH is better at conversing overall but I still find Alexa more functional. If you're not a tinkerer and all you need is a smart speaker that can control off-the-shelf smart home devices, you can't go wrong with either ecosystems. But if you're willing to let your imagination let loose and integrate stuff that were not originally designed to be integrated, I find Amazon's ecosystem, surprisingly, more flexible.

I actually watched this with my dad in a theater back then. Did I mention that I was so into computers, Hi-Fi and tech at a young age? Anyway, the movie sealed my desire for home automation ever since. Not to mention seeing my teenage crush, Virginia Madsen.

Anyway, the OST video does it better justice, IMO.

I haven't gotten to the tinkering part yet. I can't even get either my GH or Alexa to get Netflix running on my TV. Apparently it only works if you connect the TV via Chromecast and not via SmartThings. Any leads?

I have a Samsung Smart TV and I've given up on SmartThings for now. I can't even get my Samsung Galaxy phone to see that Samsung TV!

I now use a Fire TV Stick in the bedroom that has Alexa. I can tell her (speaking through the Fire TV remote) to switch inputs (HDMI-CEC), open an app such as Netflix, Prime Video, or search for a show. It's neat as I don't have to use the clunky on-screen keyboard all the time.

The UI is also way faster on the Fire TV than the Smart TV.

Tried hooking up my Chromecast from our 10 year old TV to my smart TV and Google Assistant works like a charm. Problem is, you can only control YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix either via voice commands or via your phone.

You can't tell Netflix to play a particular season or episode, it'll just play the latest episode. If you have a particular episode in mind, you'll have to use a remote (which Chromecast doesn't have, so you'll have to use your phone).

The built in app seems more functional for me at this point.

All those devices are half-baked AIs. There is a law governing AI development ,they wouldnt bevgiven full access kasi very disturbing yun findings
