Tragic ending... occured toward the end of the race while the Sauber of Guiterez was being collected by the track marshalls after it spun off the track,...RIP

The FIA is reporting a track worker at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has died after being run over by a crane trackside.

The man was assisting in retrieving Esteban Gutierrez's wrecked car after the end of the race. He tripped and fell under the wheels of the crane carrying the car when trying to retrieve a dropped radio and was run over.

Reports state that the man was quickly brought to the track care centre, but was sent to Sacre-Coeur Hospital in Montreal for treatment in its traumatology department.

Efforts to help the man were unsuccessful and he succumbed to injuries Sunday night.

The unidentified man is the third marshal to have been killed since 2000.

At the Italian Grand Prix in 2000, Paolo Ghislimberti when he was hit by a wheel during an opening lap crash.

During the 2001 Australian Grand Prix, Graham Beveridge was killed when he was struck by a wheel that had flown through a hole in the fencing during a collision between Jacques Villeneuve and Ralf Schumacher.

    Race Recap/Analysis:

    1. Sebastian Vettel - Amazing pace in the RBR. Amazing drive from Vettel, who finished 26 seconds ahead of Webber. The lead could have been bigger, but he seemed to enter cruise mode once he built that 16 second lead over Hamilton. Well deserved first-ever victory at Montreal, even if some of the crowd were being assholes about it and booing him.

    2. Fernando Alonso - A brilliant recovery from a rather ho-hum qualifying in the "hates-cold-conditions" Ferrari. And all of his overtaking was on track. OVERTAKING ON TRACK, WITHIN THE TOP FIVE! A very scrappy race, with collisions with Mark and Lewis, but he pulled through. Is there anything the man can't do?

    3. Lewis Hamilton - Drove what he could drive. The Mercedes GP really doesn't have hot condition pace, but he managed to get more out of the tires than Rosberg did. Adrian Sutil ruined his race by ignoring the blue flags, allowing Alonso to get up his gearbox and set-up an easier overtake... but then, Alonso was going to get him, either way.

    4. Mark Webber - Sleepy race for RBR's "Number Two". He was in what was arguably the best car on the grid, but had trouble in his three-way with Alonso and Rosberg. Maybe if he'd qualified higher, like Vettel did... but Mark really doesn't have that extra turn of speed Vettel does.

    5. Nico Rosberg - Either he was monumentally screwed by tire strategy or the unusual number of pit-stops indicates he was having a problem with tire wear and set-up. Whatever the reason, the gulf to Lewis seemed even greater than it was in qualifying. Since Lewis has won here a number of times, it might just be down to Lewis simply being better on this track.

NO ONE ELSE MATTERS. Vergne in 6th was ONE LAP DOWN. That tells you all you need to know. NO ONE ELSE MATTERS.

Oh, except Paul Di Resta (7th) - Garbage tires whut? He did a fantastic one stop race, and if the rules didn't say otherwise, he could've done the whole thing on one set of mediums. Whereas his team-mate Sutil had the potential for a higher position, but squandered it with a silly spin, a collision with Maldonado (yet another penalty for Crashtor) and a stupid blue-flag penalty.

    -

Kimi Raikkonen continued the points streak, matching Schumacher, but he won't be happy falling so far behind in the championship, and Felipe Massa makes up for a horrible qualifying by entertaining the crowd with a zillion overtakes and points. But you expect the Ferrari to collect points. Not walls.

    -

Biggest losers (points wise): Bottas, though that's not his fault. Maldonado is even further back. Rosberg, but he still gets good points, and McLaren. Which has had a forgettable weekend all around.

    -

    Wall of shame:

Van der Gaaaaaargh. Blue flags mean move over. Not move into shiny car. Garrrrgh.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    Lotus in Trouble?

June 9th, 2013 (F1plus/Ernie Black).- There has been a lot of talk lately of the financial situation in which Lotus allegedly finds itself. F1Plus bumped into Ben Cowely of team Lotus yesterday and had a little chat about this and other things.

We asked Cowely if Kimi's success was bittersweet. If the team is truly in money troubles and the Finn is paid per championship point, is Kimi's points streak slowly bleeding the team dry? Ben indicated that as usual, things get misrepresented and that the team has no concerns at all about finances.

Lotus has every intention of keeping Raikkonen for next season, despite the rumors of Kimi replacing Webber at Red Bull, the Enstone based team will make a serious bid to continue the success together with their number one driver.

F1 Plus also chatted with Lotus test driver and GP2 champion Davide Valsecchi last night and he told us why he believes Kimi will stay with Lotus. While Red Bull can afford to make the Finn an offer that few would dare refuse, the culture at Lotus may be enough to even the playing field.

As most every Formula One fan knows, Kimi likes to come in, hop in his race car, drive the wheels off and go home. No media or sponsor obligations, no interviews or photos, just drive. The good people at Lotus understand this, perhaps more than any other team and they understand Kimi.

They essentially allow him to do what he wants which includes very little more than his 'team driver' duties. A perfect marriage for both sides. The success the team currently enjoys is in part, because of this somewhat symbiotic relationship.

    Whitmarsh doubts 21-race 2014 calendar

McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has expressed doubt over the chances of the 2014 Formula 1 calendar featuring 21 Grands Prix, an increase of two rounds and an overall total that would mark an all-time record in the sport's 64-year history.

With races at the Sochi Olympic Park Circuit in Russia and a dedicated street circuit in New Jersey set to join the roster next season, and no other races set to make way, Whitmarsh reckons races being lost at their expense is a very real prospect.

"I don't know whether there will be 21, but I've heard the stories of a variety of new venues, from Russia to talk of New Jersey again," Whitmarsh said of the ongoing calendar uncertainty. "They're both important territories, but whether all the other dates on the calendar survive, I don't know. 21 is a lot of races, that's for sure."

With 20 races staged in 2012, and 19 dates on the current calendar, Whitmarsh says a tipping point is being reached in terms of teams being able to function efficiently.

"We've had 19 races this year and 20 races last year, and I know it's only one more but we've been saying that since we had about 14 races and most of those were in Europe," Whitmarsh went on to explain. "It gets quite tough for the team."

Adding to the threat of an increased calendar, in-season testing will return in 2014, with four gatherings expected to take place following a selection of European races.
