Ferrari sign De la Rosa as test driver

Ferrari have signed Pedro de la Rosa as test driver for the 2013 Formula One season for which they will launch the new car on February 1.

Ferrari said that team principal Stefano Domenicali made the announcements on Wednesday at the team's annual press ski meeting in the Italian resort of Madonna di Campiglio.

De La Rosa, 41, was without a job for 2013 after his previous team HRT withdrew from the sport for financial reasons. The Spaniard has competed in 106 Grand Prix races for various teams, with his best result a second-place finish in Hungary 2006.

"We decided to add De La Rosa to our group of drivers mainly to strengthen one area, namely work in the simulator, which with the current regulations regarding testing, is becoming ever more important," Domenicali said.

Domenicali also said that Ferrari will unveil the 2013 car for their drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa on February 1, with the first pre-season tests to start on February 5 in Jerez, Spain.

Ferrari last won the world title in 2007 from Kimi Raikkonen. Alonso came second behind Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in 2010 and 2012.

The three-times reigning champion Vettel will have his car unveiled on February 3, while the other top team McLaren will launch their 2013 model on January 31.

McLaren have finally abandoned the low nose configuration. Thanks to the new "modesty panel", they've been able to use a high nose configuration that doesn't look like a platypus.

Most interesting part is the new pull-rod suspension. I wonder how well that will work out for them? Might be Ferrari will have a slight edge this year, since they've got more data and experience on it than the other top teams that will be switching to pull-rods this year.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Red Bull launches its 2013 car, the RB9

Red Bull unveiled on Sunday the car with which it is aiming to secure its fourth consecutive Formula 1 championship double, the RB9.

The Milton Keynes-based squad took its third drivers' and constructors' championship in 2012, with Sebastian Vettel becoming the youngest ever triple champion after a close fight with Ferrari rival Fernando Alonso.

"It's obviously one thing to look back on what we have achieved as a team, but I feel it all starts again from zero," said Vettel. "It will be a long year again, a very tough challenge waiting for all of us.

"I'm looking forward to that and not thinking about what happened in the last year. People expect something of us, but more than that we expect ourselves to do well."

The Renault-powered RB9 is the ninth Formula 1 single-seater created by Red Bull since taking over the Jaguar team for the start of the 2005 season.

Red Bull's new challenger has again been designed by a team led by Adrian Newey, who said at the end of last year that it was getting harder and harder to find gains for the 2013 car given the rules stability.

"It is increasingly difficult because there are no real regulations changes compared to this year and it will be the fifth season since the 2009 rule changes," Newey told AUTOSPORT.

"The field is converging and you can see how competitive it is in the fact that we had eight different winners this year."

The new Red Bull will take to the track on Tuesday at Jerez, with Vettel's team-mate Mark Webber doing the driving.

Diyan malalaman kung talagang magaling si Newey... No ifs nor buts,- no excuses...

    Tell that to Rory Byrne.....

The Sauber is still the prettiest car on the grid... followed, maybe by the Lotus.

The Mercedes looks very unique. Wonder what tricks Brawn has up his sleeve this year?
