Red Bull confirms Hungaroring meeting was about Alonso
28 minutes ago
Aug.3 (GMM) Red Bull has confirmed a meeting about Fernando Alonso took place with the Ferrari driver's manager at the Hungaroring last weekend.
Initially, the sensational story of a potential move to Red Bull for the two-time world champion was dismissed by some, as Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad also handles the career of rising Red Bull-backed youngster Carlos Sainz jr.
But when told his meeting with Garcia was obviously simply about the 18-year-old Sainz, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told Sport Bild: "Nonsense.
"Why would I talk to him about Sainz jr, who has long been in the Red Bull junior team?"
Sainz jr drives for the GP3 team MW Arden, a collaboration between Mark Webber and Horner.
Clearly, Garcia and Horner might have something to talk about other than Alonso, but Red Bull is not hiding the fact the Hungaroring meeting was about Ferrari's number 1.
"I can't remember if we talked about Red Bull or Spanish red wine," a mischievous Dr Helmut Marko, the head of Red Bull's driver programme, told German television Sky.
With Australian Webber heading to Le Mans, Red Bull is weighing up a new teammate for Sebastian Vettel next year.
Earlier, although Kimi Raikkonen is also still in the running, it was believed Daniel Ricciardo had sped into pole position for the seat.
But Horner insists: "We have never been under pressure to take one of the junior drivers.
"We have won the world championships for the past three years, and we want to ensure we can carry on doing so in the future."
Nothing has been heard from Alonso's manager Garcia since the Hungaroring meeting, but still involved in the 32-year-old's driver career is the former Renault boss Flavio Briatore.
He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "He has a contract and contracts must be respected..."
.
"Alonso has never said he wants to leave."
Wow kala sealed na deal Kay kimi for red Bull. Where will kimi go after? I don't think red Bull has a chance to get Alonzo, specially with the pride of vettel and Alonzo... They would clash.
Malaki rin kasi yung backer/sponsor si Alonso, yung Santander, the biggest bank in Europe. Si Kimi wala ata nag sponsor. pure talent lang...
Sayang Ganda sana kimi and vettel. Game on lagi. Hehe bilog pa bola ngayon, hoping it's still kimi for red Bull instead of alonso.

Renault: By mid-season the 2014 turbo cars will be faster than this year’s cars
Renault SportF1 chief Remi Taffin does not think the next generation of Formula 1 cars will lose much of their speed as the sport moves from V8 to V6 turbo power next year.
“I don’t think we’ll lose so much,” the French marque’s head of track operations told Russia’s Championat.
“F1 is F1, and we want the cars to still be the quickest. And they will be fast,” he said. ”I think that at the beginning of the season they will be slower than the current cars by a second, but after mid-season they could even be faster.”
“It’s always been like that, [like] when we moved from V10 to V8, and when there were big changes in the aerodynamics in 2009,” Taffin added.

Raikkonen opts for Ferrari return in 2014 - report
According to Finnish newspaper, Raikkonen has decided to choose Ferrari for 2014

Aug.14 (GMM) 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen has decided to return to Ferrari next year, the major Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat has reported this week.
The Finn, whose two-year rallying sabbatical began after Ferrari ended his contract and signed Fernando Alonso for 2010, had been more strongly linked with a move from Lotus to Red Bull.
Ilta-Sanomat said its report was based on the information of its "sources".
The newspaper added that Red Bull team owner Dietrich Mateschitz is keen to sign Ferrari's current number 1 Fernando Alonso for 2014, despite the Spaniard's long contract.
Many in the paddock, however, see the prospect of Alonso's pairing with reigning multiple world champion Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull as highly unlikely.
"I was surprised by these (media) reports," admitted Daniel Juncadella, a young Spanish driver who is being linked with a future at the Williams team.
"It's quite hard to believe," he told Russia's Championat. "Of course he would have a very good chance to become world champion again if he was at Red Bull -- but we'll see."
Lakas ng red Bull racing niyan! Pataasan lang ng pride kung vettel alonso.
Mas ok pa kimi alonso sa Ferrari. Hehe
Sounds like the usual rumor-mongering.
No way in hell will either Vettel or Alonso be willing to play second fiddle. Having two drivers that committed on one team is a Senna-Prost-level muck-up in the making. Nuclear.

Ferrari plays down Raikkonen return reports
Ferrari has repeated its denial, as reports Kimi Raikkonen could return to the Italian team in 2014 persist.
Two weeks ago, when the Raikkonen rumours first emerged, a Ferrari spokesman insisted the Maranello outfit "has no interest in the driver market right now".
Now, the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat claims the 2007 world champion has decided to accept Ferrari's offer.
And Ferrari has issued a near-identical denial.
"Right now," the spokesman told the BBC, "we're really not giving any thought to the driver market situation."
Interestingly, however, Ferrari seemed to rule out the reported scenario that, if Raikkonen does arrive, it could be to replace the Red Bull-bound Fernando Alonso.
"Drivers are not a problem for us," said the spokesman, "even if we were to change Felipe (Massa)."
Germany's Auto Motor und Sport points out that Raikkonen's management could see the Ferrari rumour as mere leverage amid the more realistic talks about 2014 with Lotus and Red Bull.
"It is important for Raikkonen to keep a third option open," said correspondent Michael Schmidt.

British GP Tyre blowup bonanaza repeat???
Drivers demand reassurance Pirelli tyres are safe
By Andrew Benson
Chief F1 writer at Spa
Formula 1 drivers demanded reassurances their tyres are safe following two failures in Belgian GP practice.
Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso suffered right-rear failures in Friday practice.
The drivers asked race director Charlie Whiting for assurances that Pirelli understands the problem. One senior figure described it as a "big concern".
Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery admitted the tyre failures were "a worry for the sport".
He believes the problems were caused by external damage.
Among the drivers concerned about the issue are three-time world champion Vettel and team-mate Mark Webber plus Alonso, McLaren's Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Webber said the drivers would not accept Hembery's explanation as a reason for the failures.
"We need answers. And 'debris' is not the answer," the Australian said.
One insider said the drivers were "pretty spiky" about the subject. Webber responded: "We're right to be."
And a team principal, who did not wish to be identified, said: "I'd be amazed if we didn't have to respond to some major issue this weekend."
Totoo naman na hindi dapat maging problem yung debris. Almost lahat ng tire failure nila, sabog goma. Maiitindihan ko pa na debris kung puncture lang.
