The dollar went up as high as 60:1 during erap's time. But it went as low as 38 +:1 last year. Buti pa ngayon ganun kaysa yung panahon Marcos. Sobrang restricted ang dollar, controlled by his cronies.
Marcos government of Philippines, known for its corruption, always aimed at retaining the foreign exchange earnings from traditional exporters. From 1970 to 1984, the Philippines had an intermittent history of multiple rate structure with different rates to foreign exchange transactions for exports, imports and foreign debts, on the basis of a daily "Guided Rate". From 1970 till 1973, traditional exporters were required to surrender 80% of the foreign exchange earning at a "Official Rate" fixed at 3.9, which is more disadvantageous to exporters

^ and a lot of those loans didn't see the light of day. that's the reason why the central bank of the philippines went bankrupt and eventually became the bangko sentral ng pilipinas. marcos' cronies unmercifully ransacked the central bank of the philippines w/ behest loans w/c lined their pockets and financed their ostentatious lifestyle to no end in the guise of proposed industrial and infra projects here and abroad
speaking of cronies, i hate it when guys like danding cojuangco, roberto benedicto, kokoy romualdez, lucio tan, et al are hailed as excellent businessmen when they made their fortunes in collusion w/ marcos via crony capitalismLast edited by baludoy; May 26th, 2014 at 11:35 AM.

In 1945, Japan was ruined. 20 years later, they hosted the Olympics in 1964.
In 1953, Korea is a total s h i t. After 28 years, they bid for the Olympics and hosted it in 1988.
Marcos era ended 28 years ago with 5 presidents after him but the Philippines can barely host a SEA Games.

tayo token lang at pahirapan pa ang tulong na binigay ng mga kano kumpara sa japan, korea, at germany (not to mention the other euro nations affected by ww2) maski na indiscriminate iyong carpet bombing ng mga kano nuong liberation (kung saan arguably masmadami namatay kesa sa atrocities ng retreating japanes/korean forces) . ang masahol pa niyan after all these, kung tama pagka-alala ko, they took advantage of our colonial mentality, our need for financial aid, and our postwar gratitude to obtain unfair and one sided "parity rights" to our natural resources and disastrous bilateral trading policies w/c proved fatal to local industries trying to develop after the warLast edited by baludoy; May 26th, 2014 at 10:57 PM.

^ Kasalanan pala ni MLQ.
“I would rather have a country run like hell by Filipinos than a country run like heaven by the Americans . . . -MLQ. "
Exactly my question. Why does it have to be done all at the same time? They were already doing...
