Metro Manila has a slightly smaller land area than the city-state of Singapore but has more than double its population. SG has a far more useful mass transit system, however, and has a progressive Traffic Demerits Point System. Metro Manila is also administratively fragmented with 17 independent cities/municipalities.
Should the NCR copy the policy below?
Singapore to Stop Adding Cars to City From February 2018
Singapore, among the world's most expensive places to own a vehicle, will stop increasing the total number of cars on its roads next year.
The government will cut the annual growth rate for cars and motorcycles to zero from 0.25 percent starting in February, the transport regulator said on Monday.
In view of land constraints and competing needs, there is limited scope for further expansion of the road network," the Land Transport Authority said in a statement on its website. Roads already account for 12 percent of the city-state's total land area, it said.

we can't do it here. we are over-dosed with the word democracy. Singaporeans are well-disciplined people, they follow the laws by heart. traffic scheme nga lang ng mmda, daming protesta. the best but very drastic solution is to ban jeepneys. I can't still understand the word jeepney modernization. how can we modernized jeepneys when the call of the times is mass transportation? ibalik ang tren sa pilipinas, before world War 2, philippines is one of the counties with established train systems. sayang.

Singapore is a city state. NCR is just a region in the Philippines. Hindi pwede i-control yung number of vehicles in NCR since marami nanggagaling sa ibang provinces. Enforcement lang talaga ng traffic laws ang kelangan.

Iba naman kasi sa Singapore... We can't compare it to the Philippines.
Before buying a car, you will need to purchase a certificate of entitlement (COE) it allows you to own a car for 10 years.
After 10 years, you either buy another COE to extend the life of your car (to another 5 years)
Bidding ang COE so even if they announce that growth rate will be Zero (0), papalitan parin nila yung mga cars for scrap (expired COE) so may new cars pa din, mag mamahal lang COE.
Second is yung thinking ng Singaporeans... Sa ganda ng roads nila, plus the fact na halos walang traffic... Naniniwala sila na on the 5th year, kailangan na palita suspension ng cars. On the 10th year, it has to go since luma na... So nawawala old cars sa kalsada...

October 29th, 2017 09:33 AM #7singapore has been limiting the use of cars for many years now. it is nothing new to them.
besides, with a mass transport system as efficient as theirs, why would one want to drive a car?
