Disappointed with the Senate Electoral Tribunal's decision favoring Sen. Grace Poe, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has raised the possibility of him seeking the presidency in the 2016 elections.

“The option to run for me as president is already a possibility,” GMA Davao quoted Duterte as saying in his speech during an event in Brgy. Mandug, Davao City Thursday night.

Duterte, a lawyer, was also quoted in the report as saying that the problem with Poe's case is that the senator became a naturalized American citizen.

“Ang problema kasi diyan, si Grace, pumunta ng America, doon nag-asawa tapos binigyan ng magandang trabaho rito, iniwan ang American citizenship niya. Dual (citizen) na siya. Saan ang loyalty niya ngayon, sa Pilipinas ba o sa America,” the Davao mayor said in local language.

On Tuesday, the SET, voting 5-4, dismissed the disqualification case filed by Rizalito David against Poe. Rizal had sought to unseat Poe from the Senate on the ground that she is allegedly not a natural-born Filipino citizen.

The SET members who voted to junk David's petition were Senators Vicente Sotto III, Loren Legarda, Bam Aquino, Cynthia Villar, and Pia Cayetano.

Those who voted in favor of David's petition were Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justices Antonio Carpio, SET chairman; Teresita Leonardo-De Castro; and Arturo Brion, as well as opposition Senator Nancy Binay, daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

'No doubt'

In the same GMA Davao report, Duterte said that there should be no doubt on being a natural-born citizen of a person.

“Ang ating Konstitusyon ay nagsasabing, (one) must be a natural born citizen. Ibig sabihin, mula pa lang nang iluwal ka ng ina mo, hindi na magdududa pa ang nagpaanak sa kanya, ilalagay talaga niyang Filipino ka kasi alam niyang taga-Mandug (Davao City) ka,” he said in local language.

Earlier this month, Duterte expressed disappointment on the government’s failure to act on the alleged laglag-bala scheme at Nino Aquino International Airport, saying it could compel him to run for president

But a week later, the Davao mayor said being Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban)’s standard bearer was just ‘press release’ as has yet to receive a document that officially names him as the substitute presidential candidate of the party.

He cited as reasons the medical condition of his wife, the opposition of his family and his lack of resources to mount a presidential campaign.

The PDP-Laban earlier said it has adopted a resolution naming Duterte as its substitute to presidential candidate Martin Diño. Two days later, Diño withdrew his candidacy and named Duterte as his substitute.

The Comelec allows substitutes to file their COCs on December 10.

"December 10 is the deadline. Why don't you just wait for December? Kung sisipot ako sa Manila sa December 10, I will file my certificate of candidacy," Duterte was earlier quoted as saying. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News

or something about illegally obtained evidence and such..
