THE COUNTRY, especially the Visayas and Mindanao, is suffering from an energy crisis similar to the one it experienced in the early 1990s.

We will continue to suffer blackouts—or brownouts—as long as we don’t change our attitude towards nuclear power.

We have been brainwashed into believing that the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) in Morong town posed a grave danger to the population because of the possibility of a leak.

What most of us don’t know is that the unfounded fear was foisted on us by then President Cory and her subordinates who were on a vengeful spree against ousted dictator Marcos.

All the things Marcos and his wife Imelda built must be destroyed, according to their mindset, because they were the fruits of an evil regime.

Among Marcos’ pet projects was the BNPP which would have brought electricity to the entire country, but which the Cory administration looked at with spite.

For all her saintliness, President Cory committed many blunders, including the mothballing of the BNPP.

The BNPP, for which the country has already paid many millions of dollars every month, must be reopened to solve our power crisis.

No, we’re not disgracing Cory’s memory if we reopened the BNPP.

Let’s not be too sentimental. Just because we loved Cory so much doesn’t mean that we should also hate all the things she hated.

The times call for being practical: Let’s reopen the BNPP.

True, Cory, was honest and sincere in running the government. But she didn’t know that some of her relatives and close friends were allegedly robbing the country blind.

The term “Kamaganak Inc.,” coined by the late columnist Louie Beltran, referred to accusations of corruption allegedly committed by Cory’s relatives.

How do we know that Kamaganak Inc. would not be resurrected if her son, Noynoy Aquino, wins the presidency?

Done right, Nuclear power is safe, clean, and very efficient.
Done wrong, well we can end up with another Chernobyl. =)

Personally I'm in favor of going Nuclear. It's several hundred times cleaner than coal or oil burning plants in terms of damage to the environment, and we can get much higher power outputs given similar structure size, or operational expense.

with this corrupt government, a big NO!!!

pro-nuclear advocates in government only see the huge $$$$ commissions and that's my impression. kung sa rice importation walang patawad, diyan pa? seems no government project is done without the so-called SOPs including BOTs

so the law-abiding taxpayers will pay for a plant more than double its price OR quality down-graded to accommodate SOPs to be given to all hierarchy of government.

so what else is new?

besides, TV broadcast stations, cell sites, cellphones, radio station, WiFi etc. emit more environmental radiation than nuclear plants
