    Uhhhh simple gas and energy problems di na kaya what more nuclear power. They (senate people) could use it though to kill themselves

    There is also the problem of E10 gasoline destroying/damaging engines.

    -the general lack of information dissemination on which vehicles can use E10
    -the lack of choice (of non-E10 gasoline) when the law comes to full effect in 2010

    Think of the waste from a nuclear power plant -

    Waste water from heat exchange units, excess heat thrown into a nearby body of water (cheaper way to cool it) raising temperatures in the area up to 5 degrees effectively destroying the aquatic ecosystem, radioactive waste from the reactor itself, highly stable gases from the cooling tower (look white clean smoke! clean? yeah....like noble gases...), etc.....

    Some nuclear plants maintain waste containment units years after these came out from a nuclear plant.

    And the BNPP is supposed to be entombed after 30 or so years of operation with (if I remember the tech sheets they gave decades ago) at least 10 meters of concrete. It's old technology which should not even be considered anymore.

    I just wonder how many qualified nuclear engineers we actually have to run such a plant.

    With the way those knucklehead people operated those Dams during the last Ondoy, you think I'd trust them with Nuclear Power?

    No way, Jose!

    as an electrical engineer na minsan nasa topic namin yan, my answer will be NO.

    I think we are ready for nuclear power, or any type of power for that matter. BUT we're never gonna be ready for a nuclear disaster. :-) No one will.

    Atleast yung nuclear waste ay pwede natin ibaon sa isang island na walang tao... yung conventional energy source naman ngayon pero ay nalalanghap natin araw-araw kaya parang itinatapon sa mga baga natin.

    When we eventually have power outages and rotating brownouts due to lack of power plants, i think that we will give nuclear power a second hard look. dahil sa impending power supply/generation problems in our country, the arroyos and their cronies are already positioning themselves to take advantage of this situation - if you havent noticed already.

    If the facility is to be handled by a private company (huwag lang mga lopezes), Oks na yan. Pero ibang usapan pag gobyerno ang humawak.

    Timing Lang iyong topic na sinagot ko kahapon Dito Kasi kagabi I was in a gathering w/c included a gentleman who works intimately in the halls of the senate. so i decided to ask him if there were any news in the senate about the loose talk that the bnp will be possibly revived by Marcos jr.

    So to make a long story short, the answer I got was Malabo daw since the majority of the residents of Bataan province are vociferously against the nuclear power plant's reopening. Another thing he Pointed out was rebooting /retooling it is just too expensive since the technology used there is obsolete already. But the thing is , there are countries still using the very same 46 year old tech the bnp similarly has to this day.

    The plan that's been gaining traction is to instead construct small modular reactors in several key locales. I was told it's more efficient, less costly to maintain , and it has a lower carbon footprint.

    Anyhow, the interesting conversation was fueled by scotch and beer so baka may mga hyperbole and stuff kaya take it w/ a grain of salt. [emoji16]

    i gather, the answer is,
    "we can resurrect it, but there are now better and cheaper options" .

    Payag ako, but siguro on one condition:

    All:
    -gov't officials responsible for its operation;
    -entire legislature (upper & lower house);
    -the president and vice president;
    -and all the relatives of the above w/in the 4th degree (cons./aff.)

    Must live permanently within a 5km radius of the plant while it is in operation, and remain there until it shuts down without any risk of contamination.

    Tignan natin kundi tumino patakbo diyan
    I doubt may matapang though

    would you settle for,
    "if all the workers administering to its functions, were to live around the area" ?

    Interesting turn of events.

    Marcos jr is in talks right now w/ USA manufacturers of "modular" nuclear reactors. While in Germany , the gov't is closing down their last operating atomic power plants.
