I'm curious what did I miss in maintaining my 10 year old Fortdiesel. Beside the usual 5k change oil, I didn't do any other maintenance...

My only gripe about diesel engines is the noise. Maintenance wise I leave it to the pro.

Taxes haven't changed, but the global prices of refined fuel (not Brent Crude, but refined gasoil and mogas) have changed and there's really a bigger gap between gasoline and diesel prices nowadays. Usual factor for this is the difference in refining costs of gas and diesel.

Can you kindly elaborate on the CRDi maintenance issues you have encountered?....

the price gap between gasoline ànd diesel is just too big (last time i checked it was between 12php to 13php). the reason for this is beyond me to divine bro. what could be the culprit behind this?

Mali yung pagka generalize ko sa crdi.

Rent a car kasi kami 12 montero. Ang dami problema buti nakuha sa warranty.

Ang bilis magpalit ng fuel filter. Napakausok kailangan ipablank.

After that no need for cleaning the egr na.
-350 lang ang fuel filter. Palit every 10k km.
-every 10k km ang change oil at oil filter basta baldwin ang filter

I may agree with you na mas costly. Pero magkano lang naman yun

On a global scale, there is a greater supply of diesel than gasoline, pushing prices down for the former. More refineries are maximizing diesel output, anticipating increased demand, but right now there's just an oversupply, leading to lower prices.

Demand for gasoline remains high which is why its equilibrium point is higher than diesel's.

^thanks bro. so it is still largely due to the law of supply and demand that president magsaysay, though only apocryphally, wanted to amend, and not for some arcane economic reasons

Mas magastos talaga maintenance diesel. Mas frequent palit like filter, oil....etc

Mga gasoline engine ngayon, fuel filter kaaya paabutin 60,000-80,000kms. Mas malinis gasolina kumpara sa diesel.

Pero baka sa montero lang ito problema. Yung iba diesel engine hindi naman ganito kaselan.

CRDIs operates at tight clearances, precise and lean burning, higher injector pressures kaya mahal din ang filtration and maintenance. But the power to weight and fc is muchmuch better than oldschools. In SG i enjoyed roaming around in a Renault Latitude taxi, its diesel yet veery comfy wala sinabi yung Camry. Darating din tayo dun sa point na mura na ang diesel, malinis pa(euro4-5).

Diesel is less refined than gasoline thats why it fouls the oil much sooner than petrol fed engine

Its not just the oil, carbon deposit build up in the different parts of the diesel engine much sooner than petrol engines

Cleaning a diesel engine is a labor intensive task thats why its expensive to maintain diesel engines. Its like whatever saving you benefit from a cheaper diesel fuel will eventually be undone when you have it serviced to keep it running in tip top shape.

Yung natipid mo sa mura ng diesel fuel ay babawiin din sa pagmaintain ng makinang ito dahil madumi talaga ang diesel fuel

For my personal use i prefer petrol fed engine. Shouldering the cost of fuel & maintenance is manageable considering it will be under utilized as compared to utility vehicles like the UV express

For business purposes i will opt for diesel because i can pass on the cost of expensive maintenance of these type of engines to the riding public

Some aussie 4x4 forum members prefer also to flush their diesel engines.

I think with the euro4 diesels coming these dirt issues will be lesser.

    Back to the subject...

    More rollbacks next week

Oil down, heads for 6th weekly loss on gasoline glut
NEW YORK | BY BARANI KRISHNAN

Crude oil dipped on Friday, plumbing multi-month lows and heading for a sixth straight week of losses, as the approaching end of the U.S. summer driving season suggested a growing surplus in gasoline supply.

Oilfield services firm Baker Hughes' report that the U.S. oil rig count rose by six this week added to the bearish sentiment for crude as it signaled production could creep up from higher drilling activity. Drillers have added a total of 32 oil rigs over the past three weeks. [RIG/U]

Traders and investors await Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) data at 3:30 p.m. EDT to determine if money managers again had slashed their bullish exposure to U.S. crude in the week to Aug 4. Hedge funds' net longs in U.S. crude fell to near five-year lows in the two previous weeks.

Government data showing U.S. gasoline stocks exceeded market estimates by about 300,000 barrels last week has pushed global oil benchmark Brent to six-month lows and U.S. crude to a 4-1/2-month trough since Wednesday. [EIA/S]

Brent LCOc1 settled down 91 cents, or 1.8 percent, at $48.61 a barrel on Friday, after touching a more than six-month low of $48.45.
