btw, why do you think having a nuclear power plant will solve the power rate hikes? Baka naman sumabay ang nuclear plant sa "Down for Maintenance" <wink wink nudge nudge>

Got our bill yesterday. For our consumption of 1100, it jumped from 12k to 16k...4k ang tinaas.

Bataan nuclear power plant: Reopen it or not? | Opinion, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com
This is one of those projects that was a casualty of revenge by CORY AQUINO. Because it was initiated by Marcos, she claimed it was over priced for $2B & source of kickback then. Due to that reasoning, she shutdown the project which was ready go by then and used the unsafe reasoning to justify the shutdown. As we all knew, Cory's administration was hounded by daily brownouts as a result.

Obviously, this administration won;t even touch this power plant kasi sabing nanay nya.

    OT lang.....

Pagnakalagay sa meralco contract for secondary metering applied load is 530kw and then contracted capacity is 371kw. Ung rating ba ng transformer from meralco is 500kva? sa plan kasi 750kva ang nakalagay.

-- relatively stable geography and weather conditions(we are on the Ring of Fire, visited by several typhoons yearly)
-- proper handling of nuclear waste(not sure where we can dump it)
-- emergency infrastucture, protocols, etc. to prevent and deal with a meltdown(my guess is if we do have a meltdown, we will be depending on the US, Japan, etc to clean it up)

To add, EDC and First Gen recently had a lot of "power assets" damaged by Yolanda. i'm not really sure how we can typhoon-proof a power plant, nuclear or otherwise.

imho it is quite possible to put up a nuclear plant here in PH; it's the maintenance that worries me
based on wiki, as early as 1958 meron na tayo "Philippine Nuclear Research Institute". So i dont incompetent tayo sa nuclear technology.

Sabi sa article, in less than 10 yrs of operation bawi na kaagad ang investment.

pwede kayang private company ang mag operate nalang nito?

For one thing, the cost of power generated is LOWER than using coal or oil with less greenhouse emissions too.

11000 siguro ito instead of 1100?

Daming additional expenses by next year.

Before, i asked a power plant manager on his take on BNPP. He said that in his opinion, it is safe to operate. His big question was how it will be managed and maintained by those who run it.

I wonder though how Anvaya Cove/Ayala will take having a nuclear power plant in their vicinity, if BNPP was ever operated (it's around 20kms away by road per google maps). I read before that they offer tours of the place, i'm curious to pass by during one of my drives. That place has nice driving roads.
