Palace probes UP–Ayala Land TechnoHub deal
By Prince Golez
Malacañang is looking into the allegations that the University of the Philippines (UP) only receives P22 per square meter from UP-Ayala Land Technohub.
“I have to probe it,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview over radio dzIQ on Sunday.
“I read in the Internet that yung Technohub diyan sa UP, ran by the Ayalas, parang maraming ginawang komputasyon yung nag research, parang lumalabas na ang buong lugar na yun is being rented by the Ayalas by less than P20 per square meter in 25 years. Kung totoo yun malaki na namang problema,” added Panelo.
The Ayalas have earned the ire of President Rodrigo Duterte after the Singapore Permanent Court of Arbitration compelled the government to pay Manila Water Company, Inc. P7.4 billion for the non-implementation of water rate increases.
Manila Water is a joint venture between Ayala Corporation and the United Utilities of the United Kingdom and the Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan.
Meanwhile, Panelo reiterated that the present administration will review all existing government contracts with private firms.
“Lahat ng anomaliya titignan ng gobyerno. Basta merong anomaliya. Hindi lang Ayala, lahat ng may kontrata na anomaliya titingnan natin,” he said.
