Miriam: Janet Lim-Napoles a close friend of Enrile
Senator Miriam Santiago said Janet Lim-Napoles is allegedly a close friend of former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
" Yang Janet Lim Napoles, kaibigan ni Senate President yan eh. Mas preferred nga niya kaysa sa akin," Santiago said in her keynote address for the 30th Annual Convention of the Philippine Blood Coordinating Council on Wednesday.
However, Enrile has earlier denied personally knowing Napoles and her questionable NGOs.
Sought for a clarification after her speech, Santiago admitted that she had no facts that could prove Enrile is a friend of Napoles.
However, she said Enrile and his deputies were contradicting each other by pinpointing that the other has signed the documents for the PDAF release of Napoles' NGOs.
Santiago went on to say that there is no denying of a potential relationship.
"They're contradicting each other. There is no denial that there has been a relationship," Santiago said after the speech.
The pork barrel scam was traced to businesswoman and now fugitive Napoles, suspected of managing questionable non-government organizations (NGOs) that received some P10 billion worth of Priority Assistance Development Funds (PDAF) of lawmakers for ghost projects.
Napoles has so far evaded capture after a Makati court ordered her arrested for serious illegal detention of the scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.
The Philippine government on Wednesday offered a P10 million bounty for information leading to the arrest of Napoles.
Napoloes and the lawmakers allegedly received kickbacks from the ghost projects.
The Commission on Audit in their latest report has since implicated Napoles in the scam - as well as close to 200 lawmakers alloting some P6.156 billion pork barrel funds to 82 dubious NGOs from 2007 to 2009, including Napoles'.
President Benigno Aquino III has early called for the abolition of the PDAF, only one of the pork barrel systems in the country, saying it has to be replaced with a new mechanism
