Control marawi and isis can block the flow of water to the hydro power plants that supply electricity to majority of mindanao

Hence, the national government cant allow marawi to fall in the hands of these radicals

Add the fact that the Maute/ASG are able to hold off for 3+ weeks the whole might of the AFP and PNP and gain significantly more international exposure.

But kudos to the best efforts shown by the AFP.
