The reason given by the Senators who gave a guilty verdict is very untenable in law and in reason.

First, they said that the Foreign Currency Deposit Act is repugnant to the Constitution. OMG. They are the ones who crafted the law and now they are saying that it is unconstitutional? This should be a wake-up call for us to re-evaluate the senators that we elect in the Senate. Kahiya-hiya sila sa mga taong may pinag-aralan. Kahiya-hiya sila sa mundo. Kahiya-hiya sila sa kasaysayan.

Second, why do these Senators interpret the law? Is it not that the job to interpret the law is lodge by the Constitution with the Judiciary? If they interpreted the law in the sense that Filipino public officials are exempted from the Foreign Currency Deposit Act, then they should have done so when they crafted the law itself. If it were so, such interpretation must have a prospective application. It is unfair to apply such interpretation to a man who has relied in good faith in the law that Congress has passed. If at all, Congress should be blamed for they are not doing their job well.

Third, if CJ Corona's intention was really to hide his dollar accounts, as many of the congressmen do, why would he place all his accounts under his name? He should have named them after somebody else's name.

Fourth, the law provides that the SALN can be corrected. If it can be corrected then the law does not intend it to be heinous or grave as any other impeachable offenses enumerated by the Constitution.

Fifth, what is the standard of proof used by the Senators in arriving at their decisions? Their personal opinions, public opinions, opinion of the one in power? An impeachment trial is a quasi-judicial/quasi-political proceedings. It uses standard by which they evaluate the evidence presented to them. In our case, the senate used the Rules of Court in supletory effect. How come they based their decisions on non-disclosure of dollar accounts onn an AMLAC Report which is nothing but hearsay evidence.

It's been days after the impeachment, and the defense are still going on about going to the SC despite being warned that the ruling is final and unappealable.

    Can you say, sore losers?

Please shut up, CBCP. Your comments weren't actually asked for, and the country isn't exactly fiercely divided over this issue. We have enough grandstanding from the politicians already. We don't need bishops to join in.

I think the 2 attorneys were only suspended indefinitely, but warned that a repeat offense will get them disbarred.

Hindi na nagtanda yang Lozano na yan...akala niya siguro he'll be getting positive media mileage from his stupid stunts. Much better siguro if he focuses on the trial of his son's killers para magkaroon pa ng sympathy yung public sa kanya.

nope. drillon categorically said he is not interested..mas gusto niya ulut senate president...

I was watching the replay of enrile's intereview in ANC last night...pinagalitan pala niya si aboriginal roy, yun nag walk out si CJ.

then he was asked if defense will go to the SC, he said if SC reverse their decision they will defy it and if they (SC) want constitutional crisis, they will have one!

then yun nag walk out din si CJ, he told the defense team that if they want to start a revolution in this country, he said the defense team should start now and go out the street and he will face them there...

In another interview, Enrile also warned the Palace regarding the nomination process for Chief Justice.

PNoy should tread lightly here. He will not want people to see him abusing his authority.

Just my $0.02, maybe someone from the law academe who is a respected authority in a field of law would be more suited for the job.

Dunno about the lawyers here but, it's been a while since we've had the likes of a JBL Reyes, Isagani Cruz, or Florentino Feliciano who were some of the notable justices of the SC who are acknowledged as experts in their fields as well as in the academe.

they wont get someone as young as Kim Heneras.. yung position nang CJ hanggang age 70 na yun.. hindi naman napapalitan yun kundi by retirement or impeachment.. Kim is what.. 50? so 20 yrs syang CJ pag sya kinuha.. usually yung matatanda na talaga kinukuha dyan.. parang 6 yrs pa lang 70 na.. para halos kasabay nang incumbent president.. tapos pag nagpalit nang president.. palit na din CJ..

Although I am curious, what kind of hold really did GMA have on Corona to make him go through all that hell in the first place? He would have known his position would not have survived with PNoy going after him with all legal guns blazing.
This is a good fodder for a "bare all, the inside story narration" book. Ano kaya special na ginawa ni GMA that urge RC to fight to the end. I'm also curious.
