And once again our beloved lawmakers have shown that personal interests are over and above national interests. BBL is the obvious collateral damage, one peace advisor commented about this standoff that is currently "now showing" on all available media. And probably only in the Philippines will you see a "lowly provincial" mayor hold sway and such immense influence and power over the whole legislative branch simply because she is the daughter of the sitting president. What a shame.

Arroyo's House takeover may be unofficial - analysts | ABS-CBN News

Arroyo replaced Davao Del Norte Rep. Alvarez as House Speaker after 161 lawmakers signed a manifesto naming her as the lower chamber's leader.

But the House mace, which signifies that the lower chamber is in session, was not at the plenary hall when Arroyo took her oath as Speaker, noted Prof. Jean Encinas-Franco of the University of the Philippines (UP).

The incident may therefore be deemed as "an unofficial gathering of congressmen", added UP's Prof. Ranjit Rye.
