Guys, please support this party list...

Alyansa ng mga Grupong Haligi ng Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Mamamayan (AGHAM)

AGHAM is a national sectoral organization of Filipino science and mathematics teachers, researchers, field and laboratory research technicians and laborers, extension agents, engineers, inventors, health professionals, and science media practitioners and otherwise ordinary Filipino citizens who strongly advocate a science and technology-explicit national development agenda.

AGHAM is a non-stock, non-profit corporation registered with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and is seeking accreditation with COMELEC in the party list system.

We believe in God Almighty and respect the freedom of belief and worship of all people.

We affirm that sovereignty resides in the people; that all men and women are entitled to equal treatment and justice under the law.

We are convinced of the vital role of science and technology in the progress of nations.

We are confident in the innate intelligence and analytical ability of the Filipino and in his creativity and inventiveness.

To our Volunteers, Friends and Networks,

We would like to clarify that AGHAM is NOT running for partylist elections.

Since our inception in 1999, AGHAM has obtained the recognition as the S&T organization most vocal and active on issues concerning the Environment, Public Utilities, Food Security & Self-Sufficiency, Scientific & Mass Culture and National Industrialization. We are glad that in more than one occasion, our work and position on issues has made front-page news.

Despite this, however, AGHAM is not running for partylist elections as we have already assessed the implications of this endeavor to our organization.

However, our eight year advocacy work has shown us that the most consistent and firm political party in adopting our Science and Technology Agenda, drafted in 2001, has been the partylist BAYAN MUNA. Posted below is our official position on the partylist elections.

We enjoin you to visit our website www.agham.org for further information regarding AGHAM. Please feel free to pass this email around to further clarify this matter.

    Sincerely,

    Trixie Concepcion

    Secretary-General

    PRESS STATEMENT
    March 12, 2007
AGHAM : WE SUPPORT BAYAN MUNA
Scientists group say people has to be first in science and technology

Since AGHAM's founding in 1999, we have upheld that science and technology development cannot be divorced from the overall people's development. In our long involvement in political affairs in both the national and international arenas, the partylist group Bayan Muna has proven firm and consistent with their support for the Science and Technology Agenda formulated in 2004 along with the agenda of other sectors of Philippine society.
Since 2001, Bayan Muna´s platform for governance has generated support from the ranks of medical professionals, health workers, farmers, lawyers, environmentalists, clergy, urban poor, national minorities, and government employees. These are the sectors that scientists, engineers, and technologists from AGHAM wish to link arms with in our commitment to serve the people.

Since 2001, AGHAM's central issues on the environment, food security and self-sufficiency, public utilities, its programs for the promotion of scientific and mass culture and advocacy for national industrialization has been re-echoed by Bayan Muna in Congress. It has consistently advocated for the scrapping of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), the law that made our electricity prices one of the most expensive in Asia . It has militantly stood against the plunder of our national patrimony and advocated bills and resolutions for the development of domestic industries which will spur genuine science and technology development in the country. It has called for the scrapping of the Mining Act of 1995 to stop the plunder of our national resources and stood with the farmers against the onslaught of foreign agrochemical transnationals.

Bayan Muna has fought for a truly responsive budget devoted primarily to social services, education and genuine scientific development while opposing the automatic appropriation on debt servicing. It recognizes that while the lack of government planning and funding worsens the situation of our science and technology, a truly comprehensive program to develop science and technology must consider not only the lack of budget but also the roots of the economic and social problems of the country .

The product of any scientific and technological undertaking is most meaningful when used to uplift the lives of the broad masses of our people and not just the few elite. It is historically untrue that science and technology development is separate from the concerns of the people. We need to put people first in the development of science and technology, and only a genuine people's party-- Bayan Muna-- can articulate this in congress.

We need Bayan Muna to represent the concerns of scientists and technologists in congress.

The AGHAM Party List is different from the left-leaning AGHAM that is supporting Bayan Muna.
