North Korea-linked 'Lazarus' hackers hit a fourth bank in Philippines - May. 26, 216
Tan got away...
BSP fines RCBC 1B PHP, thats only 21M USD. They should've doubled the money lost which is 7.6B PHP
BSP is to lenient...
RCBC fined P1-B in money laundering case - YouTube
The BSP will likely never allow Tan to work in the banking industry again. For a career banker, that's like a death sentence.
^ Something tells me the guy got a "severance package" from RCBC.
According to the Bangladeshis, Duterte has promised to return the stolen US$81million. If that's the case, who exactly( RCBC, taxpayer) is supposed to pay?
Of course we are involved in the heist, but should we foot the entire US$81million btw? i feel the Bank of Bangladesh is also culpable -- who got hacked in the first place?

for many people, it's the money. period.
who cares what the neighbor thinks?
that is why, it is not enough to fire (actually, retire!) these guys. they must be prosecuted and if found guilty, jailed and the moneys confiscated. hit 'em where it pains them.
in my opinion, they did not destroy only their reputation. they mudded the reputation of the philippine banking system. i am not sure how this effectively affected the way we live, but i read that at the early days when this fiasco was made public, overseas transactions (OFWs) became a bit more difficult and/or more expensive.

So who pays for the balance???
We, taxpayers???
These people should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, so that others who are thinking of doing a similar stunt will never even imagine it.
The image of Philippine banking is tainted through the actions (and greed) of these people.
