a number of so-called great speakers,
those whose speeches enthralled entire populations,
led their country down to perdition.

other leaders were not gifted speakers,
and yet led their people to improved situations in life.

whether the future President is a great speaker or not, is not much of a deal-braker to me. after all, "it's only talk".
but i do look at their previous achievements. that, to me, appears to be a better gauge of future performance.

that's a reliable indication of what they'll probably do in the future.

Sa mga pres candidate isa lang naman yung may ginawa na malaki ang impact, hindi umasa sa donations, sa volunteerism, pero may na accomplished na tangible kahit unpopular sa mga nasagasaan. Pioneer sa mga innovative na solutions, na ginagaya at iniepalan pa ng iba. Hindi yung action na pang job description.

Marami kasi minsan ang confuse, lalo nayung 18 hours kung magtrabaho. Hindi nila ma differentiate kung ang responsibility ng isang isang govt official ay isang duty o achievement.

Parang Junior’s camp is laying out the conditions for him to join the debate or none at all. If the topics don’t conform to their terms, he won’t join & I doubt he will.
I know quite a few Junior believers who have decided to dump him in favor of the other candidates. Common reason, ang tanga raw sumagot.

Thats for talk shows and interviews, just to keep the conversation relaxed and going forward. Meanwhile a debate with only minutes to answer, for me simulates the kind of pressure a prospective Commander-in-Chief will face when confronted with a crisis.

Debates are scary. You have to be aware of everything in the subject. Every law, past events, past mistakes… & you don’t have the benefit of researchers feeding you the answers.

and what is scarier,
is that you will be applauded for what you said, because you delivered it with conviction... despite the fact that what you said is utter rubbish.
and the gullibles will see it and think that what you said is correct.

Making the case for teaching debate | Inquirer Opinion

Contrary to the claims of a candidate for the presidency: No, debates do not pit people against each other. That’s the job of the election. Instead, debate pits arguments against each other so that we can see which one is more logical, and judge for ourselves which one represents what we need as a nation moving forward. Debating means using credible evidence to back up a claim, to focus on an argument instead of focusing on a speaker, to take nothing personally. No vague assertions. No motherhood statements.

Therefore: No, it is not negative campaigning. A good debate should clarify issues and aid decision-making.

But why debate at all, and why learn it?

When we first studied and practiced debate, we found ourselves forced to think systematically and quickly, and to use the training and lessons we had been given in our first two years of high school. We had to anticipate our opponents’ arguments, which meant that we had to read about all sides of an issue, acknowledge the weaknesses and strengths of different arguments, speak concisely, and, later, attempt to dismantle our opponents’ logic. We could not use isolated sources to back up our claims. Reliance on a single TikTok video without backup books and articles would have kicked a team out of the debate hall.


A good debate is a conversation, not a confrontation. None of that nonsense of “Filipinos are not a confrontational people.” Debate is critical thinking. Filipinos should be critical thinkers.
