Basically all diesel engines are easy to maintain. Just do the 5,000km oil and filter change, air cleaner (inspect/clean/replace). With that basics in mind, you can achieve cleaner emmissions.
Just avoid engine designations suffix with E, for computer controlled injections. Sofisticated engineering that may require you to visit their respective outlets monthly for PMS.
Not all Pajeros are smoke belchers, pag napabayaan ang driver/owner ang makina at di na alagaan, magiging mausok kahit anong brand pa.

Malamang mga new models iyan. Patrol GU at LC120.
The Patrol is aimed more as a work truck. It is less refined and more agricultural. It may not drive as well as an LC120 but it is built like a tank and can withstand harsh punishment and abuse. Solid axles on both ends, LSD or difflock at the rear, parking brake on the propeller shaft, flexible mudguards and every vital part tucked in between the frame rails makes the Patrol one tough cookie off-road.
The Prado on the other hand is more refined and road-oriented. It has a front independent suspension system which allows for better ride quality but less articulation (travel) than a solid axle would. Rather than equip it with difflocks, the Prado is fitted with electronic gadgetry to compensate for low traction situations. The sidesteps are mounted low (for easy entry) and the mudguards will get ripped off by the first rock they will encounter (they are not flexible). The Prado will make a better road machine (although still far from sedan standards).
The Patrol is for the rest of us who like to challenge nature.
