last weekend... was driving in a mild drizzle sa sumulong hiway... mga around 50-60 kph yun. medyo malapit ako sa gilid ng road pero hindi sagad.... mga 1 1/2 car-width distance from the road gutter. from about 40-50 meters ahead, merong revo taxi na nakastop... nung medyo malapit nako.. biglang bumukas yung left middle door!! pasahero bababa!! :whoa: :whoa: :freak:
reflex reaction ko, brake sabay bang sa busina! before i knew it, my rear tires were skidding to left.... nag-freeze ako. nawala yung instinct ko to pull the steering wheel to the left din para kontrahin. tapos nag stall engine ko dahil tumugil nako sa pag-skid.
ginawa ko...buhay na lang ulit makina...tapos andar na lang. dedma na lang kahit asar na asar ako dun sa pasahero na bumaba. sinilip ko sya sa rear view mirror... parang na-shock din sya. buti na lang, nakalayo ng yung kia pride na nasa kaliwa ko, kundi 3 car collision kami. all these happened in less than 5 or 10 seconds.
lesson learned... ingat sa driving on wet roads :D how i wish my XTO had ABS
this is not my first time na nag-skid ako... the first time...was driving my good ole beetle sa C5... nag-hydroplane yung gulong ko, then skid to the left... my instincts saved me.. kabig din ako pakaliwa so bumawi. luckily kumagat din yung gulong when i hit relatively drier road.
Parang may napanood ako dati sa Discovery na dapat daw swerve na lang instead of brakes. Of course my memory of it could be wrong, plus it may not apply in your situation...
Although different factors may affect how the cars will behave in such a situation, its usually better to refrain from making sudden movements (turning/kabig) and fully lifting off the gas then slamming the brakes hard if traction isnt good (i.e. slippery roads, hydroplaning, etc). The change in the balance of the car can cause the car to lose control all the more.
It will take practice but one possible thing to do in such a situation would be to ease off the gas ( but not lift off fully) and make one initial pressure step on the brakes before going full force on it.
Another thing to do is to steer clear first if you can before slowing down or hitting hard on the brakes if needed.
How i really wish all cars had ABS now. It really helps (stomp hard and steer).
First time ko 120km/h bumitaw ang likod na gulong ko nag sideways ako.. buti na lang paliko ang kalye so i end up facing the right direction. nakarecover ako mga 80km/h ang takbo ko.. nangagatog lahat ang tumbong ko..
grabe..
masakit din sa paa ang pulse ng ABS... make sure na naka shoes or stiff ang sole ng tsinelas na gamit...
nang mangyari sa akin sa Quezon Ave.. (lintek na MMDA, may tumawid lang na chicks, pinara na ako bigla) di na ako gumagamit ng beach sandals eversince for driving
Di ba parang me problema ang Isuzu dyan braking on wet roads? yung byenan ko kasi naaksidente last week nag skid din ang likuran (Isuzu Fuego 2003 model). Then nawalan na ng control, tapos binagga na nya yung sasakyang naka park sa gilid .. then umikot sya... hayun ... wasak yung harap ng Fuego. Pero before this.... skidding happens thrice already. Yung Goodyear rubber kaya ang culprit dito or the vehicle itself? We are planning to replace the stock tires maski makapal pa ang rubber just to avoid the same accident. Ano sa palagay nyo?
I don't like Goatyear tires. Tire grip is so-so, but not too good on wet roads. I was able to try it out for a week (on an AUV), and I can really feel na mahina ang grip.
I read din pala that its when the road is a bit dry and a bit wet (when the rain is just starting), this is when its the most slippery and dangerous.
I just had a near skidding accident just yesterday. The car in front of me didn't make any turning signals. we were a bit fast on slippery roads. My rear went to the right as I had the brakes hard and a bit early. But I regained control after steering to the right to counteract the skid.
lesson one: don't tail a car that's a bit fast. they might turn or shift unexpectedly.
lesson two: avoid as much as possible driving in drizzling conditions.
tires have a big factor on grip. If you're not aware of its capabilities and limitations, accident are most likely to come.
kailangan talaga ng ABS dito. ganun naman lahat ng public utility vehicles dito, tigil agad basta may nagsabi ng para, parang walang kotse sa likod. Never trail a PUV especially on fast lanes.
*cj,
