    Pajerokid,

Yes I would think so meron gains ang porting and polishing sa diesel engines like gas powered engines.

Basic sa i/c engine is that its like a giant air pump diba? The more volume of air you flow into and out of it at a greater velocity, the more power you will make.

PnP will flow more air and more smoothly too, giving uniform flow.

And yes, as you can tell I'm a fan of Autoplus (my car is tuned there, as well as the cars of my friends, about 10 cars in all) and OK ang headworks nila.

They've done headworks on a 4D56 (tama ba yun?) and malaki ang gains, pero palit din siya intercooler at plumbing at nagtaas ng boost. Not sure ano ang final WHP niya, pero the engine revs smoother to redline (perfect for the highway) and tumalon talaga ang torque curve niya (perfect for off-roading).

ungas::: hehehe! BRING IT ON! joke lang dude!

otomatic::: thanks for the engine tips! ok sana mag swap, but i'll wait for woodfire's reply first. Swapping a 4x4's engine is not as easy as a B16A swap eh. Ang daming tatamaan. But i'll be leaving later to check out prices just the same. :D

rs sprint::: botchi, me personally, im definitely sure of the benefits of headworks. I had my B16A done dati by Mang Mente (famous in the racing underground). Kaya lang a lot of people are telling me not to do it, including my mechanic. Oh well.... i hope the engine swap is within budet para moot and academic na lahat to :D Thanks for the input dude!

Mente? You mean Mang Clemente? Yup he is very popular among old school racers and tuners.

IMHO if you can afford it, buy a surplus head tapos pag experimentohan mo iyan. ;) But leave the original head to OE specs.

rs sprint::: Yup! He's THE MAN! galing nyan gumawa pare! The ultimate head guy! Di pa taga maningil! Nice suggestion on the head dude! :D But i think im gonna wait till someone does it (diesel headworks) and wait for results before doing it myself.... sayang gastos e :D

    pajero kid:

if you do decide to swap engines, try Diamond Motors Santolan Branch (Main Service Center). I can introduce you the Mr. Art De Los Angeles, their head/VP for Technical and Mechanical Services.

Yes, you need to change your tranny if you swap. Yes you will have to change engine mounts for 4M40.

Before you proceed, please take time to scout around for good surplus shops (banawe, araneta ave., pampanga c/o Kimpoy, and cavite along coastal road (I read about these shops along coastal in one of the threads in Kotse.com)

Once you have a short-list of shops, bring along a good mechanic who can discern the good engines from the lemons. Aside from myself, you can try contacting Doc Diesel's bro in Betan Makati. Im sure they have a good mechanic specializing in Diesel engines. You can also contact Hanson in Banawe since he has in his employ some Diesel mechanics.

The 4M40 is significantly better than 4D56 in terms of performance but also in emission. It can better handle the hefty weight of the pajero.

woodfire::: thanks so much! Anyway, nag canvass na ako and it looks like the swap will cost a lot more than what i can afford at this time :| Im proceeding with the overhaul. As of present, medyo mahal pa mga parts ng 4M40, not to mention not as widespread. Perhaps in a couple of years, medyo feasible na po to para sakin. :D thank you so much sir!

    pajerokid,

Thanks! It pala yung nakalagay sa mas modelo na Pajero noh? We had a Starex 4X4 and I believe ito rin yung makina niya.

    lui,
Thanks as well, pero OTT ung info na binigay mo, just wanted the engine specs.

Interesting yung bore nito, ang haba nanaman, typical of Mitsu. More torque I guess.

rs sprint::: yung ganitong specs ng bore vs. stroke is designed to produce power sa low end. Unlike oversquare designs na mas malaki ang bore vs. stroke :D Off topic::: botch check out my ex-ride www.pbase.com/mann2/my_eg :D

pjxtc::: wala pa po sa budget ang 4m40 sir. :| Hindi po kasi straight engine swap eh. I have to replace the tranny, transfercse, mounts and a lot more things..... but the idea still tickles my mind  In the far future po siguro, kapag medyo mainstream na yung 4M40. As of now ang ginhawa ng 4d56. Nagkalat ang parts and very very simple to maintain :D

    pajerokid,

Kasi even Mitsubishi's 4G63 engines have an 88MM stroke tapos 85MM bore lang. We have problems of the crank breaking at sustained high RPM runs past 7000 RPM eh, and there is a lot of power gaiend when we rev to 8K with upgraded valvetrain. Kung crank ang weakest link because of physical limitation (primary vs secondary motion harmonics).

rsHmmm mitsu engine designers seem to avoid oversquare designs for some reason....

    pajerokid,
    nice thread dami akong natutunan

magkano estimate mo engine swap 4m40?
kung aabot din lagpas 100t eto naisip ko...

since balak mo rin bumili ng J-top(di ba naka 4m40 yun), in the near future

e di i pag swap mo na lang engines nun sana swak sila!

imagine 4m40 na sleeper V44 ka na
meron ka pang off road ride pajero j-top SWB 4D56TDIC easy to maintain pa

    $$$ chiching!!!$$$
