Nakakabadtrip.

September 28th, 2009 05:15 PM #197wow. this is nice. i think this is what the modern jeepney should look like. it doesnt have much curves on it so kahit wala pang presses, you can make them already by hand. until of course the makers have enough capital to buy the equipment and starts making them with equipments.
i think the front should be shorter so you can use most of the length of the vehicle for people space. also, it should be able to seat at least 10 people (auvs nga kasya 10). more would be better. 1 vehicle would occupy lesser street space of course lesser carbon foot print than 2. would be nice if middle seats can seat 4. tapos you follow the seat orientation of AUVs at the back, but instead of seating 4, mas maganda kung six. so you'll be able to still carry 12 commuters. it would be a bit longer than an auv, but could be shorter than a van. baka sing haba ng ng kia carnival na lwb. now you get a better people mover than an AUV with a smaller wheel turn than a regular jeepney.
to make it cheaper, make the airconditioning optional. higher models can have it. cheaper versions wont. di naman kelangan naka aircon all the time. like in baguio or in provinces na malinis pa hangin. tapos lower tariffs on engines and parts na walang local manufacturer for the first 10 years. also, the govt should partially shoulder the cost para mura yung benta dito. say 30%. tapos if jeepney drivers trade in their old jeepneys, they get an additional 10-20% off. so if even if these costs 800k to make, the discounts could bring down the price to as much as 400k na lang. im sure the current jeepney owners would be able to afford them. the govt can use the road users tax for this venture. tapos extend the drivers a credit line to govt banks so they can pay for it on a staggard basis. you drastically lower pollution with newer engines and you also remove old delapidated vehicles in one stroke.
although manila is not unique, our needs are. (high population density, few major roads, very many small secondary roads, no proper people stops, low per capita income, govt sucks at handling a public transpo company e.g. metrobus, i think). and the jeepney is the perfect fit for that need. yun nga lang it's not a perfect vehicle. so we must turn it into one. we already know the jeepneys works for the metro manila setting (it not the entire philippines). we just need to make it more efficient, safer and updated as years pass by. kungbaga sa private automanufacturers e a new model every 5 years. indonesia has the bajaj, angkot, etc and it works for them. the same way that the AUV is unique for the needs of the asian countries (but not for europeans, etc). /end rant. hehehee
