an advice though.... you can really never know if it was tampered or not of if the sensor is defective. your concern now is to check the parts which might be affected IF the mileage is really 188k kms.
for one, your timing belt is really at risk. even though the previous owner changed that at 90k, another 90k, you are required to replace that.
my advice is for you to immediately perform a visual check of the parts that might need immediate replacement. start with your TBs and your other belts (alternator, aircon, etc.). kung medyo ok pa yan, that means that your sensors are really defective (its really hitting two birds with one stone).
remember, mileage is not only the focal reference point in getting a second hand car. everything boils down to how the previous owner maintains it. a car could only reflect 50k on the odometer, but goes through hours and hours of traffic, which means, more than 50k na natakbo nyan. and a car could only reflect 50k on the odometer, but the previous owner's maintenance habit could be nil (sakay, takbo lang...).
just check on the parts affected (as stated above, the belts, shocks, tires, a/c condition, electricals, etc.)
