December 23rd, 2007 06:32 PM #21anywayz, I already know and understand some of the info you posted here (mainly the "basic" functions of the CAT, O2 and HO2 systems.. I learned that in our Auto class in High School!) but if your telling us that an O2 sensor on a modern car is not imortant (wether if its a OBD-ZERO *1979-1990*, OBD-ONE *1991-1996*, OBD-TWO *1997-Present*) then that is completely retarded.
*** Actually OBD1 started on 1980
OBD2 started 1988 up to present, ... check the posts * OBD 2 by yours truly...
About the importance of O2 sensor... completely retarded nga kaya ang manufacturer ng 1997 Lancer GLXi, dahil walang equipped na 02 sensor yung vehicle na nirelease nila??.... and from your point of view (OBD-TWO *1997-Present*) pasok sya dyan???
Little knowledge is dangerous.... Peace pa rin!!!

well, hindi lang ako nag babasa sa Wikipedia. kundi I learned all of these information through 9 1/2 yrs. of HANDS ON Automotive experience, mainly in Japanese and European cars. although I also work on American cars, mas kabisado ko ang Japanese & European.
then again, like I said.. kung mangyaring wala talagang O2 sensor ang 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi ni sir Webmeister, its either been tampered with.. missing or simply na walang O2 sensor (or even have no CAT converter) ang Philippine Market na '97 Lancer GLXi. which IMHO, is ****ed up.
aite, peace.

well Jeff, hindi ko sinasabi na "tama" ako. well, kung ikaw eh tama din.. specially pag dating sa mga GM technology, etc.. siyempre since na pinag aralan mo yan.
back to the topic:
anywayz, here in the US it is required that all vehicles to have OBD systems & Smog Equipments (specially on Gasoline engines... Diesel engines are exempted.. for now.) and wether if its a Japanese, European or American car, as long as the vehicle is sold and operated here in the United States, it has to comply with the Air Resource Board (for ex: CARB = California Air Resource Board) & EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
this CARB program is made to help reduce dangerous Exhaust Gas Emissions or SMOG, specially in heavy populated states (like here in California).
so even though the OBD (ex: OBD-0,1,2a,2b.. etc.) & Emission systems (ex: O2 sensor, EGR valve, PCV valve, Catalytic Converter, Smog Pump, Charcoal Canister.. etc.) are different on each vehicles (different in terms of shape, location, size, abreviations, part #'s, etc..). they still have to work the same way (which is to maximize Fuel Efficiency, reduce Exhaust Gas Emmisions or SMOG and to help protect & save the Environment.)
aite, peace.

December 25th, 2007 03:23 AM #29ang galing ninyong dalawa,eh sana yung mga natutunan nyo ay ishare nyo na lang yan sa ibang nangangailangan ng tulong, kesa nagyayabangan kayo.ang daming nanghihingi ng tulong pero yung iba walang mga sagot, sana sinagot nyo na lang yun kesa naggugugul kayo ng panahon dito para lang ipakita kung sino sa inyong dalawa ang magaling.sa akin naman sinishare ko yung aking nalalaman at pwede nilang pakinabangan kung tama,eh kung mali naman, its simply just need to be corrected by fellow tsikoters or even you guys.

thanks for the concern Dennis, and you are actually right.
anywayz, I wasnt tryin to be a dick here.. nor tryin to show that I know it all. I signed up here in Tsikot.com para tumulong din (share technical knowledge, info, know-how.. etc..) and I do the same way wether I'm at a different Automotive Forum.
