The filter and the oil are supposed to work together. The filter can only catch the larger impurities. It is the oil's task to trap the smaller ones that easily make it throught the filter media.

April 3rd, 2005 12:30 AM #22Although "w" is for winter rating, it also shows how fast the oil will flow when the engine is cold. The modern engine needs an oil that's thin when cold but can take heat under normal operating temp. The "normal" 20w50 oil is a bit too thick to be fuel efficient so most manuf suggest a 10w30 or 15w40 for normal use.
Diesel engines produce a lot of soot, carbon which can increase oil viscosity, even in synthetic oil, inspite of quality oil filters. Only an oil analysis can determine if the oil is still usable or not after 5k kms. So wout using oil analysis, still safer to change at 5k km.

your right but the main use of oil is lubrication reduction of friction
then to cool
then as a cleansing agent
then as a rust and corrosion arrestor
then as seal or cusion
Did you know that there are 3 types of oil and not 2 for our engine?
Mineral oil
AD or ashless dispersant oil
and then syntethic oil
do what you believe.
Im just passing my knowledge to those who are open minded. I deleted my post in suggesting to extend oil change. Those who want to know just do a search on the internet on syntetic oils and contact the manufacturers.Last edited by jasonub; April 3rd, 2005 at 12:42 AM.

This is a forum, no one takes things personally. We are just here to exchange ideas.
And yes, saturated oil has less lubricity than 'clean' oil.

API SL more thick than SG or thin? more avail kasi ngayon oil API SL na kaasi ito yata ang highest API rating ngayon?

raine,
as for the idling nagpalit ka din ba ng sparkplugs nung nag SG oil ka na? most likely fouled na siguro yung plugs mo nnong naka SL ka. wala kinalaman API rating dun.
check this out about API ratings: (scroll down to see the chart)

Be careful with channels like "China Observer" on YouTube. There is a clear bias in their posts and...
