Probably you pressed on the "hard" portion of the hood (ie. near the lip or where it curves downwards). That's why no dents.

lower the hood and you'll hear the lock initially engaging.then push downward to fully engage.
maririnig mo naman kung nag-lock na.no need to push with all your might.

I just drop it around from a height of 1/2 feet.

I don' want to "push" it since that'll just lead to scratches and swirl marks.

Just purchased a new City and agent told me that it's safer to just drop the hood...

you can lower it manually until it sits. then put a little weight on the front edge with one's hands until it locks.
if that don't work, try dropping it from a height of 6-12 inches.

there's really no hard and fast nor prefered method.
    my method is, "whatever works".

but if the front end had been previously deformed... all bets are off!

Sakin ina-axe kick ko yung hood. Minsan naman kinakarate chop ko. I find both methods to be super effective.

But seriously, I always drop it.

they tell you to drop coz most consumers are idiots i.e. they'll otherwise push on the "soft" part of the hood and deform it. so to be safe they tell you to drop, which ends up putting more stress on the parts

Not all hoods can be dropped like the Forester's. Have to push it. The others, I drop.

The Forester's hood has that long thingy that looks like a handle. I pull on it hard to close the hood.
