Positively charged: The pros and cons of the 2025 Nissan Leaf | TopGear PH

I’m sure CHAdeMO is a perfectly fine charging standard in Japan, but out in the Philippines, it is awfully hard to find a CHAdeMO charger. And with many CCS2-equipped public stations paranoid about the use of adapters, most of your charging will need to be done at home.

    Ngayon lang natauhan.
Unfortunately, those models are 4 yrs old units.

I didn't even see a Leaf in the road, sa mall display lang.

Unless if may unit na built on 2025 or at least 2024 then medyo sulit.
Magdegrade kaya battery nyan lalo na if hindi masyado nagagamit for a 4 yrs old unit.
Maliit din battery compare sa Chinese EV counterparts.

On the positive note, may spare tire pala tong Nissan Leaf, a feature that is very rare on EVs and Hybrids.

people who bought it when it first came out at 3M would be pissed for sure.

Good competition to the likes of BYD Seagull, Wuling Bingo and others in the price range. Specifically for people who are Sinophobes.
The leaf is bigger than most if not all EV in that price range. Range thou is disappointing for its size.
Charging plug also is outdated and you need to buy an adapter and would you be out of luck if charging stations do not allow adaptors like shell.

Now if Nissan bundles it with free unlimited Charging at its Dealers then it might entice some people to buy.
I live near a Nissan dealership with a DC charger and i often see a leaf plug in there.

The CHAdeMO plug is definitely a concern. And yes, you are potentially purchasing old tech.

In Australia, however, the overall feedback for the LEAF has been pretty good, many 1st gen units are still going strong. There are posts of people buying used ones and still enjoying them.

It helps that the three generations of the leaf share the same battery formfactor and can use the current generation pack.

Curious lang if marami na ba kayong nakikitang Nissan Leaf sa daan?
Sa amin, wala akong ma spottan kahit isang Nissan Leaf man lang.

If that's the case, then it isn't cheap. More like a headache down the road, kahit pang coding lang na vehicle siya

Yep but the gen 2 has a different formulation than in the gen1 i believe for better endurance kaya sya ginagawang upgrade for gen 1s

EDIT: lithium-ion nickel-manganese-cobalt for the gen 2 and lithium-ion manganese oxide (LMO) for gen 1

Do we have first gen Leafs in the country? That article was 2018 pa. I think it's safe to assume that everything here is second gen (pending release of the 3rd gen Leaf).

AFAIK the problem with the Leaf (including even the 2nd-gen IIRC) is that there's no battery thermal management which leads to reduced range and performance. Not sure if it had anything to do with the incident that happened at the dealer.

The gen 2 leaf is the first version of the leaf sold here officially by Nissan PH just felt like it was worth the mention as the previous gen were notorious for battery degradation(even if it also lithium based) and even when they weren't running into the limitations of passive cooling.I don't think the leaf incident has to do with the passively cooled design of the leaf but rather a defect with that specific unit(or the charger).Otherwise they would be avoided by owners in some parts of the US that gets hotter than the Philippines. AFAIK the lack of liquid cooling in the gen 2 leaf rears its ugly head mostly when fast charging where it rapidly and severely reduces charging speed to keep the battery temps in check especially if the vehicle was driven at high speeds prior and its warm outside.

    EDIT:
probably more related to the incident was a recall on 30K+ 2019-2020 MY US built leafs for a similar smoking problem due to a batch of batteries having too high of a resistance due to a defect(lithium deposits) that causes them to rapidly heat up when exposed to Rapid DC Charging. Nissan probably would have to replace the affected packs if the software fix of further restricting Fast charging speeds doesn't work (kinda like the Chevy Bolt)
