This thread always goes in circles if a alledge SUA case comes up... same allegations and theories always come up from the grave.

I can agree with that, but only if it also happens with other vehicles with equal or similar number of occurrences. In other words, if you attribute it to driver error, why does it seem that it mostly happen on Monteros?

Nobody seems to be able to explain that.

Mostly "SUA" cases are on Montero 2nd gen. So far there is no case of "SUA" on 3rd gen Montero. I'd recall there is a case like this on a Hilux 8thgen drove through a beauty parlor that was happened maybe 2-3 years ago.

    Exactly.

Let's look at it at face value. Roughly*, there's maybe 6 Monteros for every 1 non-Montero that has had this incident.

*I don't have the exact figures but suffice to say, there's a lot more Monteros involved in this specific accident compared to any other type of vehicle.

When I say Montero, I meant the n-1 or n-2 gen, not the current one.

The car matting in the Montero can get stuck in between the gas pedal and the floor/side wall. with the proliferation of custom made 3M weather matting it might be a contributing factor to the accident.

How come i havn't heard of a Same Gen Strada having SUA?
its basically the same engine and transmission as the Montero.

Maybe its just that less experienced drivers or newbies are more attracted to the Montero, especially back when it first came out.

No shade to mitsu, but i think it could also be a factor

Most of the drivers interviewed had at least 10 years of driving experience and I don't recall hearing from anyone claiming that the Montero was their first car.

Same mechanicals including the ECU. The matting in the Strada might be different than the Montero sport

Family owns the 2011 Montero still, and for the "stock" matting, there is a hooking point so it doesn't move around or slide when in use. I don't know about the 3M mats though.

Nakuha ko before sa casa after PMS na yung matting nakapailalim sa brake pedal and nakapatong sa gas. Pagtinapakan mo yung brake pedal, mapipindot yung accelerator first at lulubog yun. Pipigilan ng matting yung brake bumaba in that sense.

my unit belongs to Gen2 which is mired with the alleged SUA phenomenon is turning 8 yrs old next month with odo reading of almost 195k kms.

i don't find anything wrong with the pedal ergonomics or the stock matting per se. we had or currently owned other AT vehicles and i don't see much of a difference in the pedal design or the way they are installed. albeit one thing in common and obvious, you have to lift your foot and release the accelerator to press the brake pedal. i think that's a no brainer to anyone driving or have experienced driving an AT vehicle. so for SUA to happen? i must be stepping the wrong pedal.

btw, back to my unit. had a timing belt replacement lately and i noticed it lost some of its agility and become sluggish even with a throttle controller. me thinking i'll go for a ecu reflash to have that SIA back again[emoji6]
