wala po bang safety issue ang turbo timer? di po ba pag switchback mo ng key to off position, di po mag stop yung engine but rather run for a pre set time then stops automatically? what if po in an emergency situation that you have to stop your engine instantly?
this is an Old Practice, usually done by Jeepney drivers in the past. Before shutting down the engine, they will switch off all electrical loads of the vehicle, then rev the engine, the logic is to quick charge the vehicle battery to be ready for next engine restarting. Today's car model does not need to perform those practices before, because our car now is equipped with a more accurate and regulated battery charger.
Updates:
After 11 weeks, Mitsubishi released the official results of the investigation on the sudden acceleration accident involving my dad's Montero. Mitsubishi blamed the floor mats! The same type of floor mats they are selling in their in their dealership! The results are posted at http://monteroaccident.blogspot.com
My dad rejected Mitsubishi's official report but he accepted the deal Mitsubishi offered to quickly recover the cost of the Montero and avoid any legal fees that will come if ever he will file a case against Mitsubishi. He accepted a buy-back of the Montero for 80% of its original price (which is not bad) but Mitsubishi did not reimburse the 500,000 pesos my dad paid to our neighbor for his damaged Mercedes Benz!
My dad bought a Toyota Fortuner as a replacement for his Montero. Not the best SUV but at least it is safe.
I also received an email that a manual Mitsubishi Montero experienced sudden acceleration and turned turtle with children onboard! There seems to be a pattern with these accidents, after the 5000 km periodic service and coming from a parked position.
Hi Julius. I saw your email add from a post regarding Mitsubishi Montero Sport sudden unintended acceleration (Mitsubishi Montero Sudden Acceleration Accident). A similar incident just happened with my dad's Montero Sport 4x4 last June 16, 2011 where it accelerated on its own and lost its control including the brakes not working. The car turned turtle as a result. Perhaps you have further information you can share with us. Thank you in advance.
I have attached a photo of the car. All passengers are safe now thank God. They were about to go on a long trip when this happened.
Hi Julius. Thanks for the prompt reply. The car is manual transmission. I bought it for my dad last december and they just had its 5000 km check up last month.
It was parked. The passengers boarded and as soon as my dad started the car it just accelerated and the brakes were not working and the road was downhill. My dad struggled as the area was crowded. It turned turtle after crashing into a stone wall just 30 seconds after it was started.
Im not with them in the Philippines. They are preparing the insurance papers now and once that is done I will have to prepare suing the manufacturer. My 5 year old and 3 year old nieces were inside the car when it happened. I wont take this sitting down.
Thanks for the reply Julius. I will update you how this will be resolved. They should recall that model!
Thanks,
Leonard
Ingat na lang parati mga sir....I still look at some point that there are some "human error" that might be involved in this type of accidents. Presence of mind is always necessary even we are "experienced" drivers..
does 2011 Montero Sport GLS-V 2.5 AT comes standard with reverse sensor and third brake light? thanks for the reply.
the jury is still out on the "sudden acceleration" issue for me
i would rather wait for the full, factual and objective report on the monty M/T incident
until then, IMHO, is all appears to be driver error
otherwise, if this was a widespread occurence, then more will be reported not just here in the philippines but also in other countries (australia, south africa, ukraine, south america etc) on this alleged manufacturing defect considering that the engine and transmission are all similar AND i doubt if mitsubishi can keep this under wraps that long (3 years or so)
until then, i am fully enjoying my monty, wooohoooo!!!!!!!!!!!![]()

for me driver error din,
lalo na if this is a M/T, driver should always start the car with handbrakes ON and in Neutral while stepping on the clutch pedal when starting...
kahit naka apak ka sa gas or mag wild rev engine nyan or topakin ECU or hindi gumana brakes pero hindi pwede mag move ang car..
ofcourse there is no way the car mag in gear ang M/T by itself
I am very satisfied with my Montero too![]()
It could be that the two drivers involved probably has the same old school habit being mentioned here when one is used to driving carburetor type of vehicles. It may also be that there really are problems with their units but for the 2011 model, i am sure these has already been addressed with assuming there were any concerns to begin with/
