i just read an article on inq7.net wherein the police were told na pwede uminom, wag lang malasing. on average, how many bottles of beer can a person drink before getting drunk? i'd imagine that the figure would vary depending on the drinker's "level" -- beginner, novice, master of the malt -- pero on average, ilang bote?

lahi kasi namin, we can't hold our alcohol. kung uminom man kami e dahil lang sa sankaterbang pilit lang, and at most mga 1/8 glass full B)

Almost the same here badkuk. A bottle of beer makes me tipsy. So, I never drink any amount of alcohol when I am driving....

coincidentally i just watched a feature on discovery about alcohol. kaso yung mga pinakita nila sobrang lakas uminom and each person has a different alcohol threshhold. but suffice it to say, even after people were tested and declared legally unfit to drive, majority of them still thought they could drive safely home(and would have done so if it werent for the experiment).

"drunk" and "stupid" kinda goes hand in hand imho B)

i think me kinalaman din ata if you drink on an empty stomach? a family friend(a veteran drinker at that) got drunk off his feet after drinking about half a bottle of red wine on an empty stomach. buti na lang he wasn't the type that gets violent when drunk. i was more than ready to strap him to the bed if he was B)

depende sa tao i guess. on my heydays, could drink up to 15 bottles of san mig light before dozing off. but when i'm driving, i could do up to 6 or 8 bottles, more than that uh well...

depende rin sa schedule. until very recently, i never got past to my limit (6 that is), lalo na kapag nasimulan na ng 10 pm. damn i hate those 'red eye' schedule. kaya maselan na ako pag-iinom. if i want a quickfix, i go get the strong ice X 2 ang tama nya lalo na kapag problemado at nag-iisa. basta may sisig na pulutan, ayos na! :D

like the link missz posted, it's a function of BODY WEIGHT. drunk is drunk, regardless of whether you think you can "hold it" or appear to be more normal than other people when they're drunk.

you'll still be impaired - vision, decision-making, reaction time, etc - which is why you shouldnt get behind the wheel

as for me, magaling ako diyan sa appearing normal while completely stinko...wag mo lang akong kausapin ng medyo malalim :bwahaha:

if you want to drink in a party and drive (safely) later... you can do this trick:

only drink one bottle of beer per 1/2 hour. drink a half glass of water / ice tea in between your bottles of beer.

and don't drink anymore beer 1/2 to 1 hour before you leave. piss as much as you can before heading home.

hehehe. kaya nga "Drink Moderately". anyway its relative.

why do we drink? is because of the euphoria of getting drunk?

when you are drinking, say in the case of beer. 1 to 4 bottles, is considered social drinking. beyond that it is for the sake of getting drunk...

pwede naman mag-drive kapag naka-inom. basta limit yourself to 1 bottle in hour. (di yata pwede sa akin yun ah).

or this one: drink one bottle then stop for a while. after 30 minutes, resume. bring along a battery of ricoa flat tops... i do wonder, mas alert ako pag naka-inom. mas safe nga actually. because i'm aware of the slower reaction time, therefore, i adjust my driving style according to what is i think safe.

Well sa mga police na on duty I don't think that will apply, I mean yung mga employees namin pag uminom straight redhorse or pale pilsen, wala ng juice juice. And their job is to serve and protect not to "drink and not get drunk"... I'm sorry I just don't get the logic of drinking on the job... ok lang pag naka off duty

    ok... here's the full article:

the advisory was issued to off-duty cops... who might be called at any time to respond to emergencies and the like... not to on duty cops.

    NEW YEAR REVELRY
You can drink, but don't get drunk, police told

YOU CAN DRINK, but you can't get drunk. This was among the police leadership's last-minute reminders to cops, especially those who will be off duty, as the country inches its way toward the New Year.

"Actually, they can drink if they are off duty. But as responsible cops, they should remain sober and be immediately available during emergencies," said Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police.

"They should not be staggering about," Bataoil added in Filipino.

Ground commanders have been ordered to form task forces to monitor cases of indiscriminate firing. These task forces will be jointly overseen by the police and military to avoid friction in cases where a soldier is caught firing his or her gun.

The 118,000-strong police force has been divided into two work shifts to allow everyone to spend part of the holidays with their families. Group A worked through Christmas while Group B will report for work on New Year's Day.

also advised off-duty policemen not to leave their areas of responsibility, in case the police force is placed on full alert and they would be needed at the police stations.

Cops have to keep their mobile phones and radios on so they could monitor what is happening and could be easily reached by their superiors.

"Not getting drunk, not leaving town, these are actually standard operating procedures," Bataoil said.

"Needless to say, we also want our cops to spend quality time with their families," he said.

Bataoil explained that often, it is the off-duty policeman who is in the best position to respond in an emergency.

"We have produced acts of heroism out of our off-duty cops. Sometimes, it is the off-duty policeman who can respond, who is given the opportunity to react, and that is why he or she must be alert," he said.

Early this week, the police started sealing the muzzles of their service firearms, a practice aimed at discouraging cops from firing their guns to celebrate the New Year. Police officials have warned that those caught violating this directive would be dealt with severely.

The police has also urged private citizens and other armed groups, including rebels, to keep their fingers off the trigger.

It is not the military's practice to seal the muzzles of their firearms on New Year's Eve. Instead there are the usual reminders that soldiers found to have injured or killed anyone through indiscriminate firing would be punished.

Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Generoso Senga has not issued a general order to do so, but Thursday he said he was leaving it up to ground commanders to decide if it was necessary to seal the muzzles of soldiers' firearms with masking tape to discourage indiscriminate firing.
