kaya mababa suicide rate ng Pinas despite high poverty incidence

Roman Catholic teaching that suicide is sin prevents many pinoys from taking their own lives

nandun din ung faith ung dasal that gives hope

nandun din ung close family ties (3 generations living under one roof + extended family pa) so people are rarely left alone

a cup of rice has about similar calorie equivalent as three slices of bread.

filipino laborers do not hold the patent to katamaran.
neither do they have exclusive use of the words "hard work".

    one thing i learned,
katamaran and kayod kalabaw know no skin color.
    "marami ring palpak sa 'merika".

    back to topic.
    why rice?
rice needs lots of water. we have lots of it, we being where we are, even if we don't have enough in our gripos.
i can not imagine, america's wheat belt flooded...

    my opinion.

Given naman yan meron tamad. At least in my experience with Pinoy workers overseas in construction, iba talaga compared to other nationalities. That's what I'm referring to.

i have heard that years ago.
the filipino ocw is the prefered worker by many employers.
one reason being, they speak english.
i do not know, why our leaders do not capitalize on this and actively support it in the education system.

My uneducated POV is that rice isn't the easiest to grow; from seed babatubuin para maging binhi, then itatransfer sa flooded paddies, requiring a lot of water, manually, one by one.

On the other hand, wheat and barley doesn't seem that picky; it's practically like grass. Not sure about the water requirements but they definitely don't grow them in flooded paddies. Corn also seems easier to grow, as well as root crops.

Mas bagay ba yung bigas sa weather natin? While gov't does have its failures in supporting rice farmers, imho storms, floods, etc tend to ruin most rice crops faster than any government ineptness.
In some parts of the country corn is actually preferred by Pinoys. I've seen this in the Visayas mostly. Some eateries actually offer both.

Pero ang tinapay eh ginagamit nga yung term " Walang masamang tinapay." So may bad na tinapay.

I have this odd food habit of when the main dish is sinigang na baboy, I would pour some of the hot soup into the rice pot when all thats left is the crunchy "tutong". I woud let it sit for a while, letting the soup soften the crust and then scrape it off. Yum.
