April 25th, 2018 11:00 AM #19362Cause extremely pampered children don't realize the value of work and the value of money. Also, they become utterly reliant on you for everything.
I remember my prof's story back in the day...
May isang studyante raw siya, araw araw nagddrive papasok sa school.
One day, paubos daw yung gas ng kotse. Tumawag sa magulang, hindi pala marunong paano magpagas. Apparently someone's been doing that for him/her all that time.
Extreme scenario, pero for me, the underlying concept is the same...
Ewan ko rin if true or not, pero wouldn't be surprised if it were.

The deeper impact can be seen in adulthood, where you see the person with no ambition because everything has been provided for, and therefore ill equipped to face financial challenges in the future. Let's hope that the money their parents leave the will last their generation.

April 25th, 2018 11:15 AM #19364My parents gave me a great education when i was growing up. But aside from that they taught me the value of hard work. They knew i was into cars....yet they never ever gave me a car of my own. Hence i vowed to be successful so i can purchase my own car.
When i was engaged they did not spring for the wedding nor give me anything for my first home. I put up an internet cafe, started buying and selling cars, became a real estate broker AND worked as a project hire in an IT company. The NEED drove me to extend myself. The rest is history.
I am so happy i learned these lessons early. Am okay now and i knew that while they could easily give me the things i wanted, they knew i needed to earn them for myself.
I have zero regrets and am glad i learned how to count on myself. Teaching the same thing to my kids somehow. Hehe.
And yeah now that theyre older and seeing all their children stable already, they are really pouring it on now as in turbo mode. So its even sweeter.

I believe it has to do with the cycle:
Hard times create strong men
Strong men create good times
Good times create weak men
Weak men create bad times
The reason why you have to simulate hard times even in good times.

April 25th, 2018 12:08 PM #19366Agree.
Pagdating sa mga anak namin, we'll stay on the safe side na lang than to be sorry.

Learned a lot from this thread! Now I am thinking if I should pursue my cleaning services biz or auto supply business as another source of income...
