she ranted about the discrimination she got while studying here in manila just because she hailed from the visayas and i have to agree w/ her. since i spent a big chunk of my twenties in davao city ( i'm a manila boy through and through but my parents are of visayan and mindanoan extracts), i've heard stories about this kind of localized discrimination from friends and girls i have dated

come to think of it, back in college i had cebuano schoolmates and friends in "liberal" ateneo who were really miffed by this unfair ostracism since their tagalog was poor and they had a hard time expressing themselves in pilipino subjects ( most especially in philosophy where classes were mostly held in deep flowery tagalog). for some reason the davaoenos, ilonggos, and bacolodnons had a better grasp of the "national language" than my cebuano peers so they assimilated better in the campus

so it got me wondering, do peeps from ilocos, pampanga, tarlac, batangas and other luzon provinces experience the same kind of vicious bigotry from manilenos. i know they're unfortunately ridiculed too but i think not in the same level of our visayan and mindanaon siblings
In my case special treatment ang mga bisaya sa mga nakasama kong Manileno. Mas interesting kasi sila. At magagaling mag english.

I was the one who wrote here about the bar exam results. It was a reaction from various lawyers in my circle, some of whom are promdis as well. Even a teacher from Ateneo de Davao said it was a statistical improbability.

I don't discount the authenticity of the bar exam results. I am merely posting about the reactions of lawyers I know. I am also promdi. My Lolo is from Iloilo, and my other Grandparents are from Bicol.

I don't know if I will laugh or feel sorry for my colleague.

He came to my desk apologizing because he was not able to buy the pan de sal I like because he was late for work. And then he showed me his long sleeves had ripped on the tummy section, apparently because it was so stretched out Hindi butones yung natanggal ha, yung tela ang napunit vertically.

I thought that would be a wake up call for him but then he asked me "may pagkain ka ba" I said "chocolates lang e" He said "sige peynge" And I thought he would only take just 1 crunch, but he got 6 or so

sometimes, is it possible, that the discrimination is all in their mind?
that there is no discrimination at all, but for some reason, "they feel they are being discriminated against" ?

Knowing how people are doc, there will always be biases for or against, and fear of that which is unfamiliar. That goes both ways. It is up to the person to either let those biases/insecurities out in the open or ignore them.

The observation made by the lawyers I talked to had more to do with historical statistics, as well as their general consensus that law schools in the capital have all the advantages when it comes to resources.

I was only relaying what was said. I apologize if I have offended anyone.
