Changed out a Kolin 1HP window-type A/C for a Panasonic 1.5HP split-type inverter A/C.
Despite the latter having 50% more cooling capacity, our electricity bill went down approx. P2,000 less than the previous month.

1. i use dipper instead of shower when taking a bath.
2. same with my car i use pail & dipper when washing it.
3. same with watering the plants, still using a dipper.
4. luckily, our toilets flush is defective so we use pail.
5. when teh weather is not that humid, i dont allow using aircon at home.
6. always maintaining our windows screen so no mosquito would enter inside. (delikado din kase environment yung mga baygon, raid, etc.. na yan, masama pa sa health ng kids.)
7. using sm's green bag, may dagdag points pa sa sm advantage card.
8. when going to sm or savemore, i ride na lang tricycle instead of using pa yung kotse. tipid na sa gas, less emission pa.

To reduce my parasitic electric load in my home, I have placed my electronic gadget chargers (for mobile phones, netbook pc, mp3 player, etc) on a switched outlets.
The outlets are only switched on when a device is charging and turned off when done.

Recycling plastic containers instead of throwing them in the garbage.
Buying food and other items in re-usable containers than in throw-away/one-use plastic bag packaging.
One more thing I am planning, but I don't know if it's "green". I am planning to install an inverter type aircon in my bedroom to replace my current six year old window type unit. I am hoping I will see savings in my electric bill. No schedule on having this done though.Last edited by ghosthunter; July 24th, 2010 at 11:21 PM.

Reviving a still relevant thread.
A few things I've done when we moved into our new house just less than a month ago:
1. Designed my new home to have as many windows as possible without breaking the aesthetics. More windows = more natural light = less need for lights during the day. We use old fashioned curtains to control how much light comes in
2. Purchased 1.5HP and 2.5HP inverter ACs (bedroom and living room, respectively) and use the "Smart Saver" function as much as we can tolerate. These babies are proven to save a LOT on electricity
3. Just last night, installed a plug-in timer for our conventional refrigerator; Set it to shutoff at 12AM and power up at 5:30AM, everyday. I might exchange this someday with an inverter fridge
4. Turn off the heater-only water dispenser before we go to bed at night and switch it on while cooking breakfast
5. Installed a door-closer on the main door so the living room won't "lose its cool", so to speak, with the AC running. My son keeps forgetting to close it plenty of times
6. Used lower-wattage CFL bulbs (11W) on less-used areas of the house and left a few 23W in sections where more light is typically needed. Unfortunately, LEDs are still 8-10x more expensive than their CFL counterparts. With the number of CFLs I have, at the worst, I'd have to spend in excess of 30k to replace all of them

I hope you also worked on window orientation against the sun.
More light indeed but if the orientation is wrong, you'll be spending more on AC. The same goes with the location of your A/C units.
*LED lighting, just give it a little time and im sure it will become more affordable.
