    +1

The cellphone market is already saturated, and competition is tight(thankfully) that's why they have all those cool call/text packages. They need a new source of income -- mobile data/surfing. And if there really isn't a need for it, they will invent one -- e.g. Facebook, LINE, WeChat.

The thing about LINE is that it's the first one that has a TVC; lakas ng backers nito

Regarding WeChat's "plan" : ganun naman talaga lahat e. Offer them cheap or free, saturate the market, kill the competition, get people hooked. Once you own the market, you're can do as you please.

It doesn't really mean much because you can use Viber and WhatsApp even if you have a SMART mobile phone as long as you have a data plan or wifi connection.

hmm Parang Facebook in a sense. pushing for more end users. risky but if the telecoms are sponsoring such apps, the cost might be justifiable to risk.
