The cellphone market is already saturated, and competition is tight(thankfully) that's why they have all those cool call/text packages. They need a new source of income -- mobile data/surfing. And if there really isn't a need for it, they will invent one -- e.g. Facebook, LINE, WeChat.
The thing about LINE is that it's the first one that has a TVC; lakas ng backers nito

hmm Parang Facebook in a sense. pushing for more end users. risky but if the telecoms are sponsoring such apps, the cost might be justifiable to risk.
