eto si Digong barilin sa paa pag may humarang

DAVAO CITY mayor Rodrigo Duterte ordered the team he sent to Yolanda-ravaged Leyte to shoot whoever will stop the convoy he sent before reaching the intended destinations.

The city sent a convoy of 20 doctors, 20 nurses and a 40-man team from Rescue 911 to aid in the relief efforts for the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda. The team is also bringing antibiotics and medicines against pneumonia and tetanus.

If the team will be harassed by Yolanda survivors, Duterte’s order was for the team to shoot.

“I told them if some people will try to stop them they tell those people that they are sent by the Davao City government to send help to the victims of the typhoon,” Duterte said Monday morning. “If they will not listen, shoot them in the foot,” Duterte said.

The problem, he said, is that the desperation of the people for help has resulted in them ambushing vans carrying relief assistance.

“I would not make a sweeping accusation but along the way the people are being cannibalized,” he said. “So my order is when they are stopped, they just have to announce that they are a contingent from Davao City and they are there with doctors and medicines. And if they will be stopped, they tell the people that my order is for them to be shot in the feet. That is what to be done in when there is anarchy.”

Duterte, who flew to Tacloban, said anarchy in areas ravaged by Yolanda must not rule. After the onslaught of the super typhoon, survivors in ravaged areas have ransacked establishments, taking away food and other supplies. Survivors even attacked a Philippine National Red Cross team who was bringing food to affected residents in Tacloban City.

The mayor went to Tacloban to personally deliver the city’s aid. Davao City is giving P7 million (not P8 million as earlier reported by NewsDesk) in aid for the victims. Duterte said he will also assess how long the team must stay there.

“There is an imperative need and moral obligation for Dabawenyos to help and I will be there,” he said.

As of last night, the team stopped in Maasin, Southern Leyte because of impassable roads. The military has already cleared the roads. Duterte, who will be overseeing the Davao team, said three choppers are on standby to be used by the medical team to reach farflung areas.

Duterte was born in Maasin, one of Yolanda-affected areas in Southern Leyte.

More humanity than some of our rotten politicos...they do it out of kindness rather than votes.

Tama kaso hindi din naman tama na tsunami gamitin. Lagyan lang ng qualifying term kasama ng tsunami.

Kung ako "malaking alon na parang tsunami" na lang gagamitin ko tapos sasabihi kung gaano kataas.

I texted a good friend in Cebu during the storm last weekend, it was only now that he responded thru a thread in the MBCP Forums.

I just wanted to share what he said.

Sorry po Sir Francis, never received your text! Communications were out during and immediately after the storm, so most likely it was lost in communication po.

Thanks for asking, Cebu City has been spared from the catastrophic wrath of the storm, but northern Cebu has been left in tatters, along with Capiz and Leyte as we all know by now.

We who have been spared this great tragedy are now tasked with an even greater responsibility, to help those who literally lost everything they had. This is the time to turn gratitude into generosity, a time to give until it hurts, and then give some more. This is a time for us to transcend all the boundaries of race, religion, nationality, and political affiliation, this is a time to make this one of humanity's finest moments by turning this heartbreaking physical tragedy into the triumph of the human spirit.

Please help. It does not matter where you channel your relief goods, your cash, or even your time and energy. Even helping out in the packing of the relief goods for the victims means a lot to those we may never even know or meet, but to let them know that there is a glimmer of hope despite losing everything is the very least we can do.

The situation could have very well been the other way around.

People keep saying that people started looting because "gutom na sila", "wala nang makain"...i have mixed feelings about this. iirc people started looting *immediately* after typhoon Yolanda left the province -- so ibig sabihin at that very moment, ginutom na sila kaagad? And i also see some people carting off a chest freezer...kakainin ba nila yung freezer?

Look, if people had already gone for days without food, i wouldn't blame them for looting. But the looting happened earlier than day plus one.

Just a while ago Nina Corpuz was grilling Sec. Alcala about the slow distribution of rice. i have to side with Alcala here -- what good is there to bring rice there, only to be carted off by bandits? Sa tingin nyo ba e ididistribute nila yan sa ibang tao? During the aftermath of Katrina, the US gov't sent in troops, even Blackwater agents, to establish control first....because the point of distributing goods is to make sure they get to the people that need them.

That said, any info yet on who stole the relief goods? Napaisip lang ako, would an unruly, hungry mob really be that organized to pull it off? Sounds like banditry to me.

According to our yaya who hails from the same area and where her parents still live, the convoy was stopped by the NPA and made off with one of the trucks.

*sigh* yan nga ang hinala ko. "Revolutionary tax" kuno?

Ordinary people, who just went through a typhoon btw, wouldn't be able to pull off a hijacking like that without any sort of training.

Duda din ako sa looting. If it were you or me, we'd still be in a daze during the aftermath. This was planned imho.

The Russkies are also sending help...

Russia to Send 200 Rescuers to Typhoon-Hit Philippines
    11 November 2013
    RIA Novosti

Russia will send a team of 200 rescuers to the Philippines, stricken by a devastating typhoon, if a formal request is made, a spokesperson for the Emergency Situations Ministry said Sunday.

Six planes, including four Il-76 heavy transport planes, are preparing to fly to the Philippines. Six canine teams could be also deployed to assist operations in collapsed buildings, the spokesperson said.

According to Russia's Foreign Ministry and the federal agency for tourism, up to 150 Russian citizens may have been affected by the typhoon, which is believed to have killed at least 10,000 people on the hardest-hit Leyte Island.

Super typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest typhoons on record, swept across the Philippines on Friday, devastating towns and cities. The typhoon now is moving towards Vietnam.
