I agree with you, sir Ry.

I really admire how disciplined the Japanese people were on the aftermath of the Tsunami that hit them on 2011.

Ang pinaka tumatak sa isip was how they had fallen in line very neatly and organized to get water. Dito sa atin kanya kanyang diskarte. Ibang iba talaga.

Hmm, they knew the storm was coming, they knew its strength. They knew at the seashore is probably not the safest place to be in during a storm, so why wait til Monday morning to go to safer grounds? It's not as if they didn't have any other place to go.

    Blame it to the AQUINOS!

Cory's time - central luzon earthquake that brought Baguio down to knees. Several buildings collapse including Hyatt in Baguio.
Mt Pinatubo eruption, natututlog na ng 600 years, nagising pa. Isama mo pa Dona Paz

Abnoy's time - Storm Pablo sa Davao & Campostela Valley + CDO disaster last year.
    - Bohol earthquake
    - Yolanda after Santi.

For what ever reason, the Aquino's would come out with their own first. First major volcano eruption that would have affected the world & gumigising ng tulog na. First ever major earthquake and an typhoon of category 5 in strength.

May dalang salot kaya talaga o nagkataon lang? 2 more years for Abnoy, what's more can nature provide under his remaining term is something to be seen. Huwag naman sana yung over due na big one that they keep on talking about.

Mga NPA, nag aambush ng mga aid convoys. Dapat ipaalam ito sa mga Typhhon Yolanda victims para alam nila kung bakit mabagal ang pagdating ng mga relief goods.

Philippine aid convoy ambushed as troops quell looting

Philippine aid convoy ambushed as troops quell looting
AFP NewsBy Jason Gutierrez | AFP News – 11 hours ago

Philippine troops killed two communist insurgents who attacked an aid convoy en route to typhoon-devastated Tacloban on Tuesday, the military said, as soldiers were deployed to quell looting by hungry survivors.

Bodies still littered the streets of the city, where the United Nations fears 10,000 people could have died when the category-five Haiyan struck on Friday.

Thousands of people whose homes were destroyed by one of the most powerful typhoons on record were facing yet another night of misery, many without shelter, as troops established checkpoints to try to restore order and allow much-needed aid to percolate through.

Some of that aid fell victim to one of the Philippines' long-running insurgencies when 15 communist rebels ambushed trucks on their way to the storm-wracked region, a local commander told AFP.

"There were no casualties on the government side," Lieutenant Colonel Joselito Kakilala said, adding that two members of the New People's Army, the militant wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, were killed and another wounded in the clash in Matnog town, some 240 kilometres (150 miles) from Tacloban.

In the city itself, a curfew was in force as armoured vehicles and elite security forces patrolled streets where famished survivors had raided stores and ransacked other aid convoys.

Hundreds of soldiers and police were in evidence around the city, the capital of the provincial island of Leyte, which bore the brunt of Haiyan, one of the strongest storms on record.

Tacloban -- a city of 220,000 residents -- has been the scene of the worst pillaging. Survivors reported gangs stealing consumer goods including televisions and washing machines from small businesses.

As night fell in the ravaged city, heavily armed policemen manned checkpoints or patrolled the corpse-lined streets, on the prowl for looters.

Manila police officer Julian Bagawayan said 150 members of his riot police squad were flown to Tacloban to enforce a nighttime curfew that began Monday.

"Our mission is to help the police of Tacloban because they are also victims. We all know the government is down. We came here to help the government," he said, his assault rifle in his hand.

"We are here to stop people looting properties and breaking into homes."

Earlier Tuesday, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas said four Simba armoured personnel carriers had been dispatched to Tacloban.

"We are circulating them in the city to show the people, especially those with bad intentions, that the authorities have returned," Roxas told DZMM radio, adding checkpoints were being used to prevent people mobbing relief trucks.

Super Typhoon Haiyan flattened buildings and knocked out electricity and water supplies as tsunami-like waves and brutal winds tore across large swathes of the of the archipelago, leaving desperate survivors with virtually nothing.

Some have resorted to theft, with a charity saying that in one case a man with a machete tried to rob aid workers who were receiving a delivery of medicine.

"The presence of policemen, military and government forces will definitely improve things (but) it will not be overnight," Roxas said, confirming reports that the Tacloban city government had imposed a curfew from 10:00 pm (1400 GMT) to 6:00 am.

"It is a tool that we are using to minimise the looting and break-ins. We know some people cannot return home (during curfew) because their homes were washed away, but it is more effective against roving gangs who are looking for targets of opportunity," he said.

It is not clear where newly homeless residents are meant to go during this period.

AFP journalists in Tacloban described the city as a "ghost town", with bodies still lying on the streets four days after the typhoon hit and those shops that were not destroyed boarded up.

Piles of debris, including wrecked homes and toppled trees, meant little food and medicine got through to survivors in the early days.

"That is why they were desperate and hungry", hotel owner Kenneth Uy said, describing the immediate aftermath of the storm as "a descent into chaos".

Police have said that some local councillors led the looting of shops to provide food to constituents.

Roxas added that the public works department had cleared at least one lane of a highway entering the city, which would speed up entry of supplies.

He said the government's three main priorities were to restore peace and order, bring in relief goods and start collecting dead bodies.

"Now that we have achieved number one and two, the priority is the recovery of the cadavers," he said.

Typhoon Haiyan's toll: More than 1,800 dead, 580,000 displaced

Tacloban, Philippines (CNN) -- Desperate pleas for food and water forced aid organizations and nations around the world to scramble Tuesday to deliver supplies four days after Typhoon Haiyan flattened areas of the Philippines, where bodies still litter the streets in one devastated province.

Rain from a tropical depression grounded some relief flights, while blocked roads and poor conditions at some airports made delivering other aid a difficult proposition, increasing the misery of survivors and raising anxiety.

"I fear anarchy happening in Tacloban City," said CNN iReporter Maelene Alcala, who was on vacation in Tacloban where the typhoon struck and was evacuated Tuesday to Manila. "It's like survival of the fittest."

Tacloban, the provincial capital of the island of Leyte, was ground zero for the typhoon that struck Friday, leaving the city in ruins and its population of more than 200,000 in desperate conditions.

Just my wild imagination.....

There's been some criticism about government relief efforts, about how news teams have been able to reach the more remote areas, and why they could not. Some thoughts:

    1. i'm willing to bet that private companies. media or otherwise, probably have better gear than our government. Remember the two C-130 planes that were deployed immediately after Yolanda? Those are our *only* two C-130s.

    2. The news teams are typically small groups, no more than 10 probably. Smaller groups are easier to transport, provision, etc.

    3. Speaking of provisions, i doubt if the news teams carried any significant amount of relief goods, if any.

    4. Maybe we should enlist the news teams, or their gear at least, in the distribution of relief efforts? Para hindi lang sila puro balita. i think given the circumstances they can be forgiven for not practicing "professionalism" by not getting involved in the subject(s) they are reporting on.

Dapat mag handa ng tent cities with manageable sanitation, since shattered na yung mga lugar dun. Letting the people live in their "homes", or what's left of it is a breeding ground of disease like cholera.

]Disease fears as medics overwhelmed in Philippines after typhoon Haiyan
    November 13, 2013
    Lindsay Murdoch

Authorities fear outbreaks of diseases in areas devastated by super typhoon Haiyan, with the United Nations calling for more urgency in rescue operations that have been hampered by armed looters desperate for food.

Philippine president Benigno Aquino declared desperately needed help would arrive faster as he ordered troops into villages and towns to protect relief supplies.

But rescuers have been overwhelmed by the devastation wrought by last Friday's typhoon.

The death toll could be far worse than estimated so far as rescuers reach remote areas in the path of the storm that have been cut off from communications, including on Samar Island and the northern tip of Cebu, officials say.

The United Nations warned the toll is quickly rising from the estimate of 10,000 that Philippine authorities announced last weekend. An estimated 9.8 million people have been affected.

''We are certainly expecting the worst. As we get more and more access we find the tragedy of more and more people killed in this typhoon,'' said John Ging, a UN humanitarian official.

As a new tropical depression moved across the devastated region, bringing more *******ial rain, medicines have been depleted or looted from pharmacies.

''It's overwhelming,'' said Air Force captain Antonio Tamayo.

''We need more medicine. We cannot give anti-tetanus vaccine shots because we have none,'' he said.

Bodies remain uncollected and decomposing in many of the affected areas, prompting fears of outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, aid workers said.

don't know kung mali pero parang may dagdag na dramatic flair. parepareho iyong footages na parang a day or two old na din

ot: we finally heard from our relatives in tacloban after days of silence. things are bad out there but at least the situation is slowly turning around

even our small farm and commercial space in northern samar was hit but damage was minimal considering the magnitude of the tyhoon. iyon nga lang ang kuryente wala pa din and my brother thinks its going to take several weeks for electrical power to be restored.

in our experience, i'm betting it's those stupid motherfreakin' NPAs
