Did giant croc 'Lolong' predict 7.6 quake?

MANILA, Philippines - Did giant crocodile "Lolong" predict the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Eastern Samar last week?

CCTV footage showed "Lolong", officially the world's largest crocodile in captivity, moving violently seconds before the massive quake last Friday.

A security guard said Lolong thrashed his tail violently before settling down when the quake hit.

Dr. Mancio Danilo Alegado, Butuan City veterinarian, said he has heard stories of how animals can predict natural disasters such as earthquakes.

"I only heard stories regarding this strange behavior of animals in relation to the natural calamities na nangyayari sa atin ngayon. But I haven't come across a scientific study that would support their premonitions," he said.

Preparations are now underway to celebrate the first anniversary of Lolong's capture in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur province.

Measuring 6.17 meters (20.24 feet), Lolong currently holds the Guinness world record as the largest living crocodile in captivity.
