    Smart Communications Inc., the largest mobile operator in the country, is looking at the new market segment brought into fore by Sun Cellular's 24/7 call and text service.

At some point, Smart will launch a similar product.     Sun Cellular, the newest entrant into the highly profitable mobile communications business, launched the 24/7 service in October last year, ramping up its subscriber base from 700,000 to over 1.5 million as of latest count.

    The 24/7 allows unlimited Sun to Sun call and text service for an additional P250 a month for postpaid subscribers.

    Prepaid subscribers can avail of the service through 24/7 call cards denominated at P100 and P250.

    Smart Communications Inc. and unit Pilipino Telephone Corp (Piltel) will launch in the next few days their own competitive scale of charges for their mobile phone subscribers, challenging a similar tariff that major rival Globe Telecom Inc. will offer subscribers to its Touch Mobile service from today, a Smart official said.

    BTW, Globe gamit ko, though most of you guys know where I work. ;)
